It has been announced that the manga “Yomi no Tsugai” by Hiromu Arakawa, the creator of “Fullmetal Alchemist”, will be made into a TV anime. Bones Film, the same studio that produced the “Fullmetal Alchemist” series, will be in charge of animation production.
A teaser visual and a special trailer were released along with the announcement. The main staff was also announced, and a comment from the original author, Arakawa, was received in commemoration of the anime’s adaptation.
“Yomi no Tsugai” is the latest work by Hiromu Arakawa, the creator of the masterpiece “Fullmetal Alchemist”, which continues to receive enthusiastic support from both within Japan and overseas. It is a fantasy of mystery and the supernatural, serialized in the monthly “Shonen Gangan”. Yuru, a boy who lives in a small village deep in the mountains, hunts wild birds and lives a quiet life in the great outdoors.
However, Yuru’s twin sister Asa is said to be performing her “duty” in a cell deep in the village, as if she were imprisoned. An unnatural mystery hangs over a peaceful town, and what secrets are hidden in this village? A new type of battle unfolds, where mystery and the supernatural intertwine.
The series has sold over 4 million copies, and the latest 10th volume of the comic will be released on July 11. The TV anime adaptation was announced during the Crunchyroll panel at Anime Expo 2025. It will be produced by Square Enix, Aniplex, and Bones, the same team that created the anime series “Fullmetal Alchemist,” which was broadcast and released from 2003 to 2011.
The anime “Fullmetal Alchemist” has a worldview centered on the fantasy element of alchemy, but also explores dark themes such as human life, ethics, morality, love, and desire. It has captured the hearts of many people with its dynamic and delicate animation expression. Fifteen years have passed since the conclusion of the TV anime series based on this work, affectionately known as “Hagaren,” which remains a beloved series among many fans. It will now take on a new stage with a solid team.
The teaser visual, released simultaneously, shows the main character, Yuru, standing alone in a barren landscape, clutching a bow and glaring at his enemies with his back to two stone statues. It foreshadows the impending big battle. The teaser video, featuring numerous pairs of swords in motion, offers a glimpse into the world of “Yomi no Tsugai,” and, coupled with Yuru’s expression at the end, suggests that the story will begin to unfold.
The main staff includes director Ando Masahiro of “Stranger: Mukou Hadan” and “Zetsuen no Tempest,” character designer Arai Nobuhiro of “Bungo Stray Dogs,” series composition by Takagi Noboru of “Durarara!!” and “Golden Kamuy,” and music by Suehiro Kenichiro of “Re: Zero − Starting Life in Another World” and “Golden Kamuy .” In addition, the original author, Arakawa, also provided a comment to commemorate the anime adaptation.
The official website, X (formerly Twitter), and TikTok accounts have also been opened, and future updates on the TV anime “Yomi no Tsugai” are attracting attention. Original work: Hiromu Arakawa, Brother Mecha!! It’s not that the decision to make it into an anime was made a long time ago, and I’ve been waiting for a long time for the day when I could announce it to the world like this. It’s all thanks to everyone’s support that I’ve been able to get this far.
Thank you! As I write this comment, I haven’t yet seen Yuruasa and the others in action, but in the storyboards that Director Ando keeps coming up, they’re moving around a lot. They’re already so dynamic on paper, but now they’re given voices, colors, and sounds… I’m curious what kind of fun anime it will be!
I’m looking forward to it! There’s still a while until it airs, so please look back on the previous publications and wait in anticipation! “Yomi no Tsugai” TV anime adaptation decided!
