On the 10th, Anime Corner, an overseas website that organizes user voting for anime works, announced that “Uma Musume Cinderella Gray” won the Best Anime Award for Spring 2025, which was broadcast until June. Taiyo Kusumi, the creator of the original manga for this work, also posted his thoughts on the announcement.

The site has two types of rankings: the “Weekly Ranking”, where voters vote for each episode that is updated every week, and the “Final Ranking”, where voters vote as a summary after the end of each season. According to the site, the award of “Cinderella Gray” this time was described as a “true Cinderella story”.

This is because it was the first time in history that a work topped the final ranking despite never having topped the weekly rankings. As our magazine introduced the other day, “Cinderella Gray” has attracted attention not only in Japan but also overseas. On Anime Trending, another primary voting site, Cinderella Gray was outside the top 10 until the fourth week, but it rose to ninth place in the fifth week and fifth place in the sixth week.

It then took first place in the seventh week and continued to hold the top spot until the final episode, showing a rapid advance. On the other hand, as mentioned above, it had never won the top spot in this year’s Anime Corner. The site explains how the Best Anime Award was calculated, explaining why this phenomenon occurred even though it was a series that had been ranked 1st.

The calculation rules for the final ranking were weighted as “weekly voting results = 45%” and “final voting = 55%”, and if it could make a sudden comeback in the final votes, it could take the overall top spot even without taking the weekly top spot. Overseas fans and viewers posted comments about the show’s comeback at the end, saying it was “just like Oguri Cap (from the show).” As a similar example, “BanG Dream! Ave Mujica,” which had never ranked higher than 24th in the weekly rankings in the previous season and was frequently ranked in the 30th to 40th range, ended up in 5th place.
