It’s already been a month since the Summer 2025 anime season began airing. This season, a stream of unique characters has been appearing, coloring the world of the series. From the protagonists who drive the story, to supporting characters who sometimes have even more presence than the main characters, to guest characters who appear in only one episode but leave a lasting impression, the diverse cast adds depth to the series.

So, Anime! Anime! Conducted a reader survey titled “Which Summer 2025 Anime Character Did You Fall in Love With at First Sight?” We received 977 responses from August 3rd to August 10th. The gender ratio was approximately 40% male and 60% female, with a slight female predominance. The age demographic was dominated by younger generations, with approximately 50% under 19 and approximately 20% in their 20s.

This article will reveal the results of the male character section. Popular characters leading the summer anime are gathered together! The top choice was Tsumugi Rintaro from “Fragrant Flowers Bloom Bravely.” He received a support rate of approximately 8%. The protagonist, Tsumugi Rintaro, is a high school student at an all-boys school where delinquents gather. He meets and develops a friendship with Waguri Kaoruko, who attends a school for rich girls. Readers commented, “Those around him often misunderstand him because of his blond, intimidating appearance, but he’s actually kind-hearted at heart. I fell in love with this contrast.” Others commented, “He’s a typical delinquent character, but he’s not violent. He’s just not good at expressing his feelings, which is what makes him so appealing. He’s also thoughtful about his friends, family, and future, and I liked how surprisingly mature he is.”

Others commented, “He wears his hair slicked back at school, but his look when he lets it down was also good,” and others expressed their love for his unusual hairstyle. Second place went to Narumi Gen from “Kaiju No. 8” (Season 2). He received a support rate of approximately 6%. Narumi Gen is the captain of the 1st Unit of the Japan Defense Force. Comments included, “He spends his days self-indulgent, but his skills are the best! He’s confident, but surprisingly cares about what others think of him, like when he ego-searches, which makes him seem more human,” and “He has a good balance between his coolness as the captain of the 1st squad and his geekiness as an avid gamer.”

New characters appearing in the second season are garnering attention, with one saying, “He uses ‘boku’ (I) as his first-person pronoun! I’m happy to enjoy Kouki Uchiyama’s bratty performance.” Coming in third place is Hanako-kun from “Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun 2” (sequel). He received a support rate of about 5 percent. Hanako-kun is the seventh of the Seven Wonders of Kamome Academy, “Hanako-san of the Toilet,” solving incidents related to the school’s mysterious happenings. Many readers said they grew to like him more as they watched the series, saying, “I like his mysterious aura, which combines boyish innocence with a mysterious depth. He can be mean to his assistant Nene, but he’s a reliable presence who will always protect her when she’s in trouble.”

Other comments included, “His old-fashioned school uniform and cap, with the charm with the character ‘seal’ written on it, tacked to his left cheek, are very stylish. He’d definitely look great in cosplay.” Other comments include: Regarding Mudano Mujin from “Togen Anki,” “His classic combination of black hair and sullen eyes is the best! He’s cool and sarcastic, but I also like how he cares about his students.”

Regarding the “Gachiakuta” Engine, He’s like an older brother who teases the main character, Rudo, but also protects him, and his first appearance in episode 2 was really cool! He has a laid-back atmosphere, but he’s also good at tying things up when it counts, and Katsuyuki Konishi’s big brother voice is terrific.” For Yoshiki from “The Summer When Hikari Died,” she said, “I empathized with his conflicting feelings of wanting to stay by his side even though he knew a fake had replaced his best friend Hikari.

The mole on his face is also a charming feature.” For Narita Kyoji from “Let’s Go to Karaoke!”, she said, “He speaks politely and speaks softly in Kansai dialect, but he also has a yakuza-like menacing quality that made my heart race. At the karaoke for ‘Kurenai,’ cast member Ono Daisuke sang badly on purpose, which was hilarious!” The male character section includes characters from a wide range of genres, including romantic comedy, action, and horror. From protagonists to rivals, there is a diverse cast.
