Paramount Pictures has announced that a new, untitled film in the ” Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ” series, a hybrid of live-action and CGI animation, will be released in the US on November 17, 2028. A spinoff of the ” Sonic the Hedgehog ” series (untitled), based on Sega’s popular action game, will be released on December 22, 2028.
The popular “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” series follows a group of four mutant turtles who protect New York City from evil. Since the comic was first published in 1984, it has been adapted into multiple animated television series, and in 1990, it was made into the first live-action film. Michael Bay then rebooted it as “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (2014), and a sequel, “Out of the Shadows” (2016), was also released.
While the sequel’s box office failure put the development of a live-action film on hold, the animated movie “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tokyo Mission” (2023), written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, performed well.
The sequel is scheduled for release in the US on September 17, 2027. The previous film in the “Sonic the Hedgehog” series, “Sonic vs. Shadow: Tokyo Mission,” was released late last year and became the franchise’s biggest hit, grossing $425 million worldwide.
The three films have grossed a combined $1.1 billion worldwide, and the fourth installment is scheduled for release in the US on March 19, 2027. According to Variety, the spinoff, scheduled for release in 2028, will be a separate event film, with the plot unrevealed.
