‘Seriously, Please Make This Merchandise!’ Detective Precure Fans React to Goemon’s Handmade Graduation Certificate

Spread the love

A tiny prop from the latest episode of Detective Precure! has unexpectedly become one of the most talked-about items among fans.

Voice actor Eiichi Ishikawa, who voices the Phantom Thieves member Goemon, recently shared a photo on X showing a real-life graduation certificate that was prepared at the recording studio for Episode 33, “A Path to Star Detective Starts With a Single Step.”

The handmade certificate was used as part of Goemon’s emotional farewell to Ruruka Mori, who had previously fought as Cure Arcana Shadow before becoming Cure Arcana.

Fans were immediately fascinated by the fact that the fictional certificate apparently existed as a physical prop at the recording studio. Many are now jokingly demanding that Toei Animation turn it into official merchandise.

Comments included reactions such as “I really want this as merchandise!”, “Please make this into a hand towel or something,” and “Seriously, they have to sell this!”

The response is especially fitting because Episode 33 transformed what could have been a simple joke prop into an important symbol of Ruruka’s character development.

What Happened in Detective Precure Episode 33?

Episode 33, titled “A Path to Star Detective Starts With a Single Step,” aired in Japan on September 13, 2026.

The episode focuses on Ruruka, also known as Cure Arcana, as she officially begins her new life as a member of the CUREtto Detective Agency.

However, Goemon is not ready to simply let his former disciple leave.

Goemon suddenly appears and reminds Ruruka that she was once his disciple, Arcana Shadow. He tells her that he cannot simply accept her becoming independent without giving her one final test.

He then traps Ruruka and the others inside a mysterious mechanical maze filled with countless doors. To escape, they must determine which door is the correct one by interpreting Goemon’s clues.

The challenge is ultimately solved when Ruruka realizes that the important clue is not the numbers themselves but the number of clues involved.

Her ability to solve the puzzle convinces Goemon that she has truly grown.

Goemon Gives Ruruka a Graduation Certificate

After Ruruka successfully completes the maze, Goemon presents her with a handmade graduation certificate.

The moment is played partly for comedy because Goemon treats the ceremony with extraordinary seriousness. But the certificate becomes much more meaningful when a Makoto Jewel becomes embedded in it.

Goemon then turns the graduation test into one final battle by creating a Hanninnder and challenging Ruruka and the others.

The Cures transform and work together to purify the enemy, completing the final stage of Ruruka’s “graduation.”

Afterward, Goemon gives Ruruka the Arcana Shadow Rod and tells her to carry her past with her while walking toward a new path.

This gives the graduation certificate a deeper meaning than simply being a funny prop.

It represents Ruruka accepting her past as Arcana Shadow while moving forward as Cure Arcana.

Eiichi Ishikawa Reveals the Real Prop

After the episode aired, Eiichi Ishikawa shared a photograph of the actual graduation certificate that had been prepared for the recording session.

The actor explained that series director Koji Kawasaki prepares something related to each episode at the recording studio every week.

For Episode 33, that item was Goemon’s graduation certificate.

Ishikawa’s post showed him smiling while holding the certificate in both hands. The handwritten document features Goemon’s distinctive style and officially recognizes his former disciple.

Ishikawa jokingly reacted to the situation, essentially asking why anyone would actually go to the trouble of making a physical copy of the certificate, before celebrating Ruruka’s “graduation from the Phantom Thieves.”

That behind-the-scenes detail quickly became as entertaining to fans as the episode itself.

Fans Immediately Asked for Merchandise

The moment the photograph appeared online, fans began suggesting that the certificate should become an official Detective Precure! product.

Some fans specifically joked about turning the design into a hand towel, while others simply wanted a replica certificate they could own.

The idea makes sense from a merchandise perspective because the certificate is not just a random piece of paper.

It is directly connected to one of the season’s most important character developments, while also carrying Goemon’s unusual handwritten style.

A miniature replica, framed certificate, clear file, towel, acrylic display, or even a limited “graduation certificate” set would fit naturally into the kind of collectible merchandise commonly produced for anime events.

Of course, there has been no official announcement that the certificate will actually be sold. The merchandise requests are currently fan reactions.

Why the Certificate Matters to Ruruka’s Story

For viewers unfamiliar with the series, Ruruka’s journey has been one of the more significant character arcs in Detective Precure!.

She originally appeared as Cure Arcana Shadow, associated with the Phantom Thieves.

Her eventual transformation into Cure Arcana represented a major change in her relationship with the other characters and her own identity.

Episode 33 builds on that development rather than simply forgetting her past.

Goemon’s graduation ceremony effectively tells Ruruka that her time as Arcana Shadow is part of her history—but it does not have to prevent her from moving forward.

The official episode synopsis specifically ends with Ruruka looking at the Arcana Shadow Rod and questioning whether it is appropriate for a famous detective. Her friends remind her that it is proof of the steps she has taken, allowing her to accept her past and smile.

That makes the certificate surprisingly important within the episode.

The Goemon and Ruruka Master-Disciple Relationship

Another reason fans reacted so strongly is the relationship between Goemon and Ruruka.

Goemon may be presented as a flamboyant member of the Phantom Thieves, but his attitude toward Ruruka has consistently suggested that he genuinely cares about her development.

Rather than simply treating her as an enemy or former teammate, he sees himself as her teacher.

Episode 33 exaggerates that relationship through the graduation ceremony, but underneath the comedy is a sincere message: Goemon wants Ruruka to succeed even after she has chosen a different path.

That mixture of ridiculous humor and genuine emotion is one of the reasons fans have responded so positively to the episode.

The Episode Also Connects to Ruruka’s Transformation

The timing of the episode is particularly important because Ruruka’s transition from Cure Arcana Shadow to Cure Arcana occurred earlier in the story.

Episode 31, which aired on August 30, was titled “Star Detective Cure Arcana.” It dealt directly with Ruruka’s hidden feelings and her transformation into the new Cure.

Episode 32 then brought her back to the CUREtto Detective Agency, setting up the next stage of her story.

Episode 33 completes that transition by having Goemon formally acknowledge her independence.

So the graduation certificate is essentially the final symbol of that three-episode character progression.

A Beginner-Friendly Look at Detective Precure!

For newcomers, ** Detective Precure! ** is the 23rd main television installment of the long-running ** Precure ** franchise.

The 2026 series gives the traditional magical-girl formula a detective-themed twist.

The heroines investigate mysterious incidents, follow clues, uncover secrets, and fight enemies while developing their abilities as Precure.

The series combines mystery-solving with the transformation sequences, action battles, comedy, friendship, and emotional character stories that are central to the wider Precure franchise.

Ruruka’s storyline adds another layer by connecting the detective team with the Phantom Thieves.

That makes her relationship with Goemon especially unusual: he is connected to her previous identity while the CUREtto Detective Agency represents the new path she has chosen.

Fans Remember the “Goemon Episode”

Many reactions to Ishikawa’s post also returned to the episode itself.

Fans praised the master-disciple relationship between Goemon and Ruruka and described the episode as an especially memorable chapter.

Some viewers joked that the physical certificate was so unexpectedly elaborate that they wanted it preserved as official merchandise simply because it captures the spirit of the episode.

Others pointed out the irony that Nao Toyama, Ruruka’s voice actress, would be the obvious recipient of the certificate if it were ever presented as an actual commemorative item.

That kind of behind-the-scenes interaction is part of what makes the story so fun: an object created for a fictional graduation suddenly becomes a real-world curiosity for the show’s cast and fans.

Detective Precure! Is Expanding Beyond Television

The certificate story comes at an especially busy time for the franchise.

The first theatrical movie, ** Detective Precure! The Mysterious Garden and the Secret of Two **, opens in Japanese theaters on September 18, 2026.

The movie follows the Cures as they investigate a mysterious incident involving a strange “X mark” that causes important objects to stop moving or functioning. Their investigation leads them to a beautiful location called Karin’s Garden, where they meet a girl named Karin and two fairy characters, Rain and Alan.

The film also features appearances from characters from ** You and Idol Precure! ** and ** Wonderful Precure! **, making it a crossover event for fans of recent Precure series.

The movie’s official website has also announced stage appearances, character photo events, and other promotional activities around its release.

The Timing Could Not Be Better for Fans

With Episode 33 focusing on Ruruka’s graduation and the movie arriving immediately afterward, Detective Precure! is currently giving fans plenty of material to discuss.

Ruruka’s development is particularly interesting because the story does not erase her history as Arcana Shadow. Instead, the series allows her to acknowledge that past while becoming Cure Arcana.

Goemon’s certificate captures that idea in a surprisingly simple way.

It is technically just a handwritten piece of paper.

But within the story, it represents a teacher recognizing his student’s growth, a former Phantom Thief acknowledging her new path, and Ruruka finally accepting every part of her journey.

Will the Graduation Certificate Become Official Merchandise?

For now, there is only one answer: fans want it, but no official merchandise announcement has been made.

Still, the response shows how effective the small details of Detective Precure! can be.

A physical prop created specifically for a recording session has now become something fans are actively asking to collect.

If Toei or the Detective Precure! production team eventually releases a replica, it would have a built-in story behind it rather than being just another character illustration.

And considering how quickly fans began requesting towels, replicas, and other goods, the handmade certificate may have accidentally become one of the most memorable pieces of Detective Precure! merchandise that does not officially exist—yet.
