A school festival is just one day away, but the students still have no idea what their class should perform. Things become even more surprising when Chotokkyu members Kai and Ryoga suddenly arrive as transfer students! This unusual school comedy brings together the worlds of MariMariMari Radio and Ryokai Shimashita! Chotokkyu QR in a special animated collaboration.

A special collaboration video between Bunka Broadcasting’s radio programmes MariMariMari Radio: Kaname and Reiji’s Secret Comedy and Ryokai Shimashita! Chotokkyu QR was released on November 4, 2026. Titled “The Day Before the School Festival, but We Haven’t Decided on Our Performance Yet, So We’re Having a Meeting,” the animated comedy is available for free on the official MariMariMari YouTube channel.

The project brings together the comedy duo Kaname and Reiji, the central characters of MariMariMari, and Chotokkyu members Kai and Ryoga. The two performers appear as newly illustrated anime characters, joining the story as unexpected transfer students. The result is a special crossover that combines the distinctive humour of MariMariMari with the familiar personalities and running jokes of the Ryokai radio programme.

A School Festival Emergency Brings the Two Programmes Together

The story takes place on the day before a high school festival. Kaname, who is visiting a high school as part of his teaching practice, discovers that the class has still not decided what to present at the festival. With very little time left, the students must come up with an idea and prepare something that will attract visitors.

Just when the situation seems complicated enough, two new students arrive: Kai and Ryoga. Their unexpected transfer adds another layer of comedy to the classroom meeting, setting the stage for an entertaining crossover between the four characters.

The collaboration was made possible after the MariMariMari team approached Ryokai Shimashita! Chotokkyu QR with an enthusiastic proposal. Rather than simply having the two radio programmes promote each other, the creators developed an original animated skit that brings their respective worlds together.

One of the most interesting details is how the video incorporates the relationship between Kai and Ryoga as it is presented in their radio programme. The two are members of Chotokkyu, but the programme also plays with the complicated idea that they are juniors of the group. This unusual running joke has been carried into the animated story, making the crossover especially enjoyable for regular listeners.

Kai and Ryoga Make Their Anime Debut in the MariMariMari World

Kai, whose full name is Kai Ogasawara, and Ryoga, whose full name is Ryoga Funatsu, are members of the Japanese dance-and-vocal group Chotokkyu. They also host Ryokai Shimashita! Chotokkyu QR is a Bunka Broadcasting radio programme known for the pair’s lively conversations and playful chemistry.

For this collaboration, both performers have been recreated as original illustrated characters in MariMariMari’s distinctive animated-comedy style. They appear alongside Kaname and Reiji rather than simply making a conventional guest appearance.

The crossover also includes a familiar item associated with Ryokai Shimashita! Chotokkyu QR. During the discussion about how to attract people to the class’s school festival performance, Ryoga brings out a recognisable prop: the Yobikomi-kun, an item familiar to the programme’s listeners. This small detail gives fans another reason to pay attention to the animation, as it connects the fictional school story with the radio show’s established humour.

Reiji praised how naturally the two Chotokkyu members fitted into the classroom, commenting that Kai and Ryoga blended in well with the rest of the class. The playful remark reflects the spirit of the collaboration, which aims to make the characters feel like they belong in the same animated world.

A Special After-Talk Episode Arrives on November 5

The collaboration does not end with the free YouTube animation. A second instalment, titled “After-Talk Special Edition,” is scheduled to be released on November 5, 2026, at 9:00 PM JST.

This special episode features all four participants: Kaname, Reiji, Kai and Ryoga. It will be distributed through the MariMariMari Radio: Kaname and Reiji’s Secret Comedy channel on QloveR, Bunka Broadcasting’s original online distribution platform.

Unlike the YouTube video, the after-talk episode is available to paid members of the channel. The MariMariMari channel’s monthly membership fee is listed as ¥660, including tax. Fans interested in watching should check the official QloveR page for membership and access details.

The two-part release gives viewers a free animated story first, followed by additional content for listeners who want to hear more from the four personalities. It also makes the project more than a one-time promotional appearance, allowing the collaboration to continue through a separate conversation.

MariMariMari Members Share Their Thoughts on the Collaboration

The MariMariMari team also shared comments about the special project.

“This is Kaname. I was surprised to find out that when I went to the high school for my teaching practice, it was the day before the school festival and they hadn’t decided on their performance yet. I was surprised that Ryoga-kun and Kai-kun transferred to the school. I was surprised that we became friends and had an after-talk. I hope everyone will be surprised too.”

Kaname’s comment playfully highlights the increasingly unexpected turns in the story. From the last-minute school festival preparations to the arrival of two transfer students and the four characters becoming friends, the entire situation is presented as one surprise after another.

“I’m practicing breaking chopsticks cleanly! This is Reiji. Kai-kun and Ryoga-kun blended in nicely with the class! I will also blend in with everything, not to be outdone by those two! Be sure to check out the after-talk session, which will even impress after-talk enthusiasts!”

Reiji’s message maintains the show’s humorous tone while encouraging viewers to watch the additional episode. His playful reference to practising how to split disposable chopsticks neatly adds another small touch of character to the announcement.

What Are the Two Radio Programmes?

For viewers discovering the collaboration for the first time, the project connects two different radio programmes from Bunka Broadcasting.

MariMariMari Radio: Kaname and Reiji’s Secret Comedy

MariMariMari is an animated comedy channel known for its nostalgic visual style and humorous conversations. Its illustrations draw inspiration from the retro atmosphere of the 1980s and 1990s, particularly the look of city-pop artwork. This nostalgic presentation is combined with modern everyday situations, relatable jokes, and sometimes absurd conversations.

The channel began its activities in August 2020 and reached its sixth anniversary milestone in 2026. As part of its next step, MariMariMari Radio: Kaname and Reiji’s Secret Comedy began broadcasting on Bunka Broadcasting in October 2026.

The radio programme features Kaname and Reiji and is broadcast every Thursday from 8:30 PM to 9:00 PM JST. In addition to its terrestrial broadcast, the programme offers extra content through its QloveR channel.

Ryokai Shimashita! Chotokkyu QR is hosted by Chotokkyu members Kai Ogasawara and Ryoga Funatsu. The programme began in October 2024 and has built its identity around the pair’s relaxed conversations, quick humour and entertaining exchanges.

It airs on Bunka Broadcasting every Monday from 1:30 AM to 2:00 AM JST, meaning it is broadcast late on Monday night. The programme is also available through QloveR, where listeners can access additional content, including video-supported after-talk episodes and programme archives.

Bringing these two programmes together creates an opportunity for fans of both shows to enjoy their favourite personalities in a different format. The animated crossover also gives viewers who may not regularly listen to either radio programme an easy way to discover their humour.
