The iconic red VF-1J Super Valkyrie piloted by Milia Fallyna Jenius in Super Dimension Fortress Macross is getting a new collectible release from Bandai Spirits. The DX Chogokin VF-1J Super Valkyrie (Milia Fallyna Jenius Use) is now available for preorder through Tamashii Web Shop, bringing the famous Valkyrie fighter to collectors with its signature three-mode transformation system and detachable Super Parts.
Priced at 36,300 yen (tax included, excluding shipping and handling fees), the collectible is scheduled to ship in May 2027. Measuring approximately 300 mm in length in Fighter mode, the figure features ABS, die-cast metal, and PVC components. It also comes with a selection of accessories, including a Gun Pod, a pilot figure, interchangeable wrist parts, and large anti-ship reaction missiles.
One of the biggest highlights is the ability to display Milia’s Valkyrie with or without its Super Pack. Collectors can therefore recreate different appearances of the machine while enjoying the three familiar transformation modes: Fighter, Gerwalk, and Battroid.
Milia’s Red Super Valkyrie Arrives as a New DX Chogokin Collectible
The DX Chogokin VF-1J Super Valkyrie (Milia Fallyna Jenius Use) recreates the red Valkyrie flown by Milia, one of the most memorable pilots in the original Macross series.
Known for her exceptional combat abilities, Milia is a former Zentradi ace pilot who becomes closely connected with Maximilian Jenius, popularly known as Max. The two are famous for their remarkable piloting skills and their partnership on the battlefield.
The new collectible is designed to complement the previously announced DX Chogokin VF-1J Super Valkyrie (Maximilian Jenius Use). Both machines are being released as separate products, allowing fans to display the two matching Valkyries together.
The red colour scheme makes Milia’s machine particularly distinctive. Its Super Pack adds an impressive appearance, while the detachable equipment gives collectors more freedom when choosing how to display the figure.
Three Transformation Modes: Fighter, Gerwalk, and Battroid
One of the defining features of the Valkyrie machines in Macross is their ability to transform into three different forms. This DX Chogokin release preserves that signature design.
- Fighter Mode
In Fighter Mode, the VF-1J takes the form of a futuristic fighter aircraft. Its streamlined appearance and detailed mechanical design recreate the iconic look of the original anime machine.
With a length of approximately 300 mm in this mode, the collectible offers a substantial display presence. The Super Pack can also be attached to give the aircraft a more heavily equipped appearance.
- Gerwalk Mode
Gerwalk mode is the distinctive intermediate transformation between the aircraft and humanoid robot forms. The machine combines the upper body of a fighter with articulated legs, allowing it to move and fight in a way that neither a conventional aircraft nor a humanoid robot can.
This unusual transformation is one of the most recognisable elements of the Macross franchise.
- Battroid Mode
Battroid mode transforms the Valkyrie into a humanoid fighting robot. This form allows the machine to use its weapons in close-range combat and recreate the dramatic battles seen in the anime.
Having all three transformation modes in one collectible is a major attraction for fans of the original VF-1 design.
Detachable Super Parts and Reaction Missiles
Another major feature of the new DX Chogokin release is its detachable Super Pack. Collectors can remove the additional equipment and display the VF-1J in its standard configuration or attach the Super Parts for a more heavily armed appearance.
The Super Pack is designed to give the Valkyrie additional equipment and a stronger battlefield presence. The wings can also be equipped with reaction missiles, adding further detail to the display.
The included weapons and accessories make it possible to create different display arrangements. The set includes two large anti-ship reaction missiles in a linked configuration, along with two additional large anti-ship reaction missiles and various pylons.
These details help recreate the appearance of Milia’s Super Valkyrie as seen in the Macross universe.
TV-Version Details and Included Accessories
Bandai Spirits has also included details inspired by the original television version of Super Dimension Fortress Macross.
The missile launchers on the Valkyrie’s arms reproduce the shape associated with the TV design. The included wrist parts also help recreate the appearance of the original animated machine.
The set contains several additional components to support different display configurations, including:
- Main Valkyrie body
- Three types of interchangeable rounded wrist parts for each hand
- Gun Pod set
- Pilot figure
- Two Gerwalk antennas
- Left and right abdomen detail-up parts
- Two air-intake shutters
- Support rod
- Complete Super Parts set
- Two linked large anti-ship reaction missiles
- Two additional large anti-ship reaction missiles
- Various pylons
- Display base set
With the combination of transformation features, detachable equipment, weapons, and display accessories, the collectible offers several ways to recreate scenes from the original series.
A Matching Valkyrie for Maximilian Jenius
The release of Milia’s VF-1J Super Valkyrie is particularly interesting because Bandai Spirits has also announced a matching machine for Maximilian Jenius.
Max is one of the most talented human pilots in the original Macross story. His relationship with Milia is an important part of the series, and the two eventually become a married couple.
The DX Chogokin VF-1J Super Valkyrie (Maximilian Jenius Use) is a separate collectible, priced at 36,300 yen and scheduled for March 2027 in Japan. Milia’s version is scheduled to ship in May 2027.
Fans who collect both releases will be able to display the red and blue machines together, recreating the memorable pairing of the two ace pilots.
About Super Dimension Fortress Macross
Super Dimension Fortress Macross is the original television anime that launched the long-running Macross franchise. It began airing in Japan in 1982 and established the series’ distinctive combination of science fiction, transforming mecha, music, and romantic drama.
The story follows Hikaru Ichijo, a civilian pilot who becomes involved in a conflict between humanity and the giant alien Zentradi after the enormous spacecraft SDF-1 Macross becomes the centre of a war.
As the conflict develops, the story explores the relationships between its characters, the power of music, and the possibility of communication between different cultures. Singer Lynn Minmay, pilot Hikaru Ichijo, and officer Misa Hayase are central to the story’s famous love triangle.
The Valkyrie fighter is one of the franchise’s most recognisable mechanical designs. Its ability to transform between Fighter, Gerwalk, and Battroid modes helped establish the visual identity of Macross and made it especially popular among mecha fans and toy collectors.
Milia’s character also has an important connection to the series’ exploration of cultural differences. She begins as a formidable alien pilot before her experiences bring her into contact with humanity and ultimately connect her life with Max.
There is also a continuity distinction worth noting: in the original television series, Milia is a Zentradi, while the 1984 theatrical film The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? presents her as a Meltrandi. The new collectible is based on her VF-1J Super Valkyrie design from the Macross television series.
Macross Celebrates Its 45th Anniversary in 2027
The timing of this collectible is also significant for the franchise. The original Super Dimension Fortress Macross television series will celebrate its 45th anniversary in 2027.
The anniversary period has brought renewed attention to the original Valkyrie designs and the wider Macross collection. Tamashii Web’s product lineup also includes other VF-1 releases, including the Maximilian Jenius Super Valkyrie and anniversary-themed Valkyrie products.
For longtime fans, Milia’s new DX Chogokin release is an opportunity to add another important machine from the original series to their collection. For newer collectors, it offers a chance to experience one of the most recognisable designs in anime mecha history.
