The first promotional video for “Fist of the North Star,” scheduled for broadcast and streaming in 2026, has been released. New cast members, character images, and information on the main staff have also been announced.
“Fist of the North Star,” an action manga created by Buronson and illustrated by Hara Tetsuo, was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) from 1983 to 1988 and has sold over 100 million copies. Beginning with a TV anime adaptation in 1984, it has been adapted into various media formats. Now, in 2026, “Fist of the North Star” will be animated by a new staff and cast, using the latest video technology, fully capturing the appeal of the original work.
The battle between men living at the end of the century will carve a new legend in the Reiwa era. Shunsuke Takeuchi will play Kenshiro, the 64th master of the ultimate assassination technique, “Hokuto Shinken.”
The first trailer released features Shin, a master of the Nanto Seiken who is Kenshiro’s destined opponent, and Yuria, Kenshiro’s fiancée, whom Shin kidnapped. Koji Yusa will play Shin, one of the Nanto Rokusei Ken, Kenshiro’s destined opponent. Saori Hayami will play Yuria, Kenshiro’s beloved.
Character visuals for both Shin and Yuria have also been released. It was also announced that TMS Entertainment will be handling the animation production. Koji Yusa (Shin) commented: “I never thought I’d be able to appear in Fist of the North Star, a work I read as a teenager. It’s a beloved work that has been adapted into various media formats, so I’m very nervous.
This time, it has been adapted into an anime in a new way, so I’m excited. I was able to express my own feelings about Shin from the manga.” I hope you enjoy the new “Fist of the North Star” I created with my reliable co-stars. My favorite line from “Fist of the North Star” is, “Desire, obsession!” My favorite character has become Shin this time! I first encountered “Fist of the North Star” when it was still a one-off, and I was intrigued by the story, which was set in the present day.
I was a student when the series first began, and I eagerly looked forward to it every week. What is necessary to survive at the end of the century? First, a strong will. Comment from Saori Hayami (voice of Yuria): “I am extremely honored to be involved in ‘Fist of the North Star,’ a series beloved worldwide. I approached the role with a sense of nervousness and enthusiasm. I hope to convey the deep kindness and love, as well as the inner strength and resolve, that Yuria possesses through my voice. I hope you will also pay attention to my interactions with each character, including Kenshiro.”
My favorite line from “Fist of the North Star” is Yuria’s line, “If with my life I can bring light to this world… then send me to heaven.” It was particularly striking, especially when combined with the artwork from the original work. Also, “You’re already dead” is a very famous line I’ve heard in many places, but I was touched to feel like I was touching the roots of it all! My favorite character is Kenshiro. He’s firm, and despite experiencing many hardships, he still harbors kindness and compassion in his heart, which is very cool.
My first encounter with “Fist of the North Star”: I feel like I’ve known about the series since I was a child, so my memories are hazy, but I’m sure I was exposed to the images, lines, and voices of Kenshiro and his friends through media. In working on this project, I revisited the original work. It’s essential to survive the end of the century: I don’t think you can do it alone, so you need friends… And I also want to keep my heart strong, even in the midst of harsh times.
