“Re: ZERO − Starting Life in Another World” “Re: ZERO − Starting Life in Another World” is an anime based on the novel by Nagatsuki Tappei, which began serialization on the web novel submission site “Let’s Become a Novelist” in April 2012 and has been published by MF Bunko J (KADOKAWA) since January 2014. It is a dark fantasy in which the protagonist, Natsuki Subaru, is suddenly summoned to another world, and using the power of “Return by Death,” which rewinds time when he dies, he faces a cruel fate to protect the people he cares about. So far, the first season (25 episodes in total) was broadcast from April to September 2016, the first half of the second season (13 episodes in total) from July to September 2020, and the second half (12 episodes in total) from January to March 2021, and two OVAs have been released in theaters.

The third season, which began on October 2, 2024, begins one year after the liberation of the “Sanctuary,” when Subaru and his friends, who are living peaceful days, receive an invitation to the water gate city of Pristella from Anastasia one of the candidates for the royal election. WHITE FOX handles animation production. The director is Shinohara Masahiro, who has worked on “Trapezium,” and the series composition is by Yokotani Masahiro, who has worked on “Free!” and “The Devil is a Part-Timer!”.

Episode 57, which shows Emilia’s growth, begins with a scene in which Al (CV: Seki Tomokazu) and Emilia (CV: Takahashi Rie) exchange words through the conversation mirror. Al had left Subaru and was acting alone. It is unclear what he was doing, but many bodies of witch cultists were lying in front of him. When he picked up the conversation mirror held by one of them, he was connected to Emilia, who was held captive by Regulus (CV: Ishida Akira).

Emilia briefly entrusted Al with a message for Subaru, such as the location of the Archbishops of Sin and a request to protect Beatrice. She could have asked for help first. If she had done that, Subaru would have immediately rushed to Emilia’s side. However, Emilia smiled at Al, believing that Subaru would come to her rescue, and said, “I want to do everything I can to make sure that Subaru, who came to help me, is not in danger.” It is only because of Subaru, who she can trust from the bottom of her heart, that Emilia has become surprisingly strong.

Subaru is also inspired by Emilia’s message, and together with Anastasia (CV: Kana Ueda) and the others, they work out a concrete plan to recapture the city from the Archbishops of Sin. First, they use the Broadcast Meteor to convey the voices of the anxious residents to Sirius’ (CV: Chika Anzai) authority of “Wrath” and Capella’s (CV: Aoi Yuki) broadcast.

The question is who will be in charge of the broadcast. In order to awaken the residents’ hopes, they must have the appropriate power. Regarding name recognition alone, Anastasia, a candidate for the throne based in Priestella, is the right person for the job. However, Anastasia says that she does not have the power to make the hearts of people dominated by anxiety boil up all at once.

Then, as everyone was thinking about who should do it, Garfiel (CV: Nobuhiko Okamoto) suggested, “Why not have the general do it?” Subaru’s heart-shaking speech was also commented on as “the best episode ever.” Subaru has a track record of defeating the Archbishop of Sin. Now that the residents are frightened by the threat, there is nothing more reassuring than Subaru calling out to them.

Anastasia and Julius (CV: Takuya Eguchi) agree with Garfiel’s proposal, but Subaru cannot decide. Meanwhile, Al tells Subaru, “If you hesitate, just give up.” From now on, Subaru must bear the “Heroic Illusion.” Subaru’s defeat will not be his defeat alone, but the defeat of the entire city, and if he is to bear it, he must be prepared never to lose, says Al.

However, thanks to Al, Subaru’s resolve was solidified. In his head, memories from when he was summoned to the other world to the present flowed like a push. It has been about eight years since the first season of the TV anime was broadcast.
