Mikamite Ren’s light novel “Watashi ga Koibito ni Naru Wake nai Jan, Muri Muri! (※It wasn’t impossible!?),” currently being published by Shueisha’s Dash X Bunko, was adapted into an anime in the summer of 2025 under the moniker “Watashi ga Koibito ni Naru Wake nai Jan, Muri Muri!.”
The protagonist, Rena Amaori, dreams of a more outgoing lifestyle and succeeds in making a good start at high school, but she’s a socially awkward, introverted girl at heart.
This is a nonstop teenage girls’ love comedy about a girl who is confessed to by Ozuka Mai, the school’s superstar with perfect looks and unrivaled academic and athletic abilities. Please note that the following text may contain spoilers for those who have not yet watched the series due to the nature of this theme. Please be careful when reading. Ahead of the broadcast of episode 3, manga artist Choboraunyopomi released a supportive illustration. Mai is stunned by Ajisai licking Renako.
Meanwhile, Takeshima Eku, who is responsible for the original illustrations, posted a cute illustration of the group’s mascot, Koyanagi Kaho, on his social media. Kaho’s head-sliding pose, announcing “Episode 4 begins!”, is adorable. Anzai Yukari, who plays the group’s soothing Sena Ajisai, posted, “Don’t miss the reason why Ajisai has this expression!” Who is holding the blushing Ajisai’s hand? In episode 3, Renako’s younger sister, Haruna, witnessed the chaotic scene with Mayu. She trudged to school, only to find Mayu absent on a break. Mayu’s childhood friend, Koto Satsuki, summoned Renako to the rooftop after school, saying she had something to talk about with her about Ozuka Mayu. Satsuki said she had heard “everything” about her relationship with Renako from Mayu. Satsuki continued,
“After we’d finished talking, she (Mayu) asked me to hold her.” Her words left the internet baffled, with comments like “That’s so straightforward,” “Hold me, lol,” and “Friends don’t just suddenly ask to hold you or hug you, do they?” When Renako returned to the classroom after her conversation with Satsuki, she found Ajisai waiting for her. “How’s it going today? Why don’t you come over to my place?” she asked.
However, to stop Mayu’s out-of-control behavior, Renako is unable to accept the invitation today. Still, if she turns down someone else’s invitation, she’ll be alone again… and it reminds her of past trauma. Believing in Ajisai and trying to convey her feelings adequately, Renako grabs her hand and boldly confesses, “I like you, Ajisai. I like you!” To a confused Ajisai, she continues, “I want to hang out with you every day, Ajisai. But I have something important to do today,” and tells her how she feels… “I like you, Rena, too…” Blushing, Ajisai closes her eyes and presses her lips to Rena’s… “Ajisai waiting for a kiss,” “It’s Rena’s fault,” “When it comes to Ajisai, it’s 100% Rena’s fault,” “The way Rena said it made Ajisai completely mistakenly think she’d confessed…” The internet is in agreement that Rena was in the wrong for Ajisai’s actions. Kanna Nakamura, who plays Rena, couldn’t help but scream, “Aa … After expressing their feelings to each other, the two jump into the pool, holding hands. Commenting on the fantastical scene, Takako Tanaka, who plays Kaho, commented, “Amazing… It’s like I’m not in love…” Animation production studio MOTHER released a beautiful line drawing after the broadcast.
Philosophy of Dance, who sang the ending theme “Mayochauwa”, Sato Maria of the group Morning Musume was also moved, saying, “It’s so beautiful, I could cry.” Nakamura added, “Yes!! What a great finale!!” Many comments about the beautiful story were posted online, but many also thought it was the final episode. “Is this the final episode of Watanare?” “Yay! Watanare is over!” “Watanabe was a great finale.” “It was a great finale…wrong.” “It’s so precious – Rena and Mayu’s relationship is great.” “Episode 4 of the Watanare anime was so beautiful…we must pass it on to future generations…”
On the other hand, there were comments such as, “I understand why everyone is saying that Rena is at fault, it’s Rena’s fault,” “After all those kisses, Rena can’t be my lover,” and “What a sinful child…” and so on, clearly showing that Rena is at fault. Tanaka also wrote after the broadcast, “The ending was so beautiful, I was mesmerized…” Anzai talked about that scene and more on the official radio program “Amaori Rena’s ‘Watana Radio!'” streamed after the broadcast. It’s a must-listen! Episode 4 saw comments online such as, “I’ll go to sleep wrapped in the euphoria of Watanare,” and “The underwater kiss is the purest in the world.
