by The synopsis and preview cuts for episode 5, “The Wig Ghost,” of the summer anime “The Summer When Light Died,” which will begin airing on Saturday, August 2, 2025, have been released.
“The Summer When Light Died” is a coming-of-age horror series based on the manga currently being serialized in Mokumoku Renga’s “Young Ace UP.” It follows the life of an ordinary high school boy, Yoshiki (played by Yoshiki Tsujinaka Yoshiki), as he experiences various mysterious incidents around him while living with Hikaru, a ghostly being who mimics his childhood friend, Ido Hikaru.
The original manga has garnered attention, including ranking first in the “This Manga is Amazing! 2023” Men’s Edition. The TV anime will be directed and composed by Takeshita Ryohei (“Night Jellyfish Can’t Swim”), with Takahashi Yuichi as character designer and chief animation director, Hiraoka Masanobu as the dororo animator, and animation produced by Cygames Pictures.
The cast includes Kobayashi Chiaki as Yoshiki (aka Tsujinaka Yoshiki) and Umeda Shuichiro as Hikaru. Episode 5, “The Wig Ghost,” synopsis: Hikaru asks Yoshiki to touch the inside of his body again, hoping to help him develop a tolerance for beings like him.
While Yoshiki seems more accustomed to it than last time, Hikaru’s interference escalates. And just as Hikaru feared, Yoshiki is attracting impurities. Hikaru heads to Yoshiki’s house to exterminate the “wig ghost” that appeared in the bathroom, but. It will also be available for free streaming exclusively on Netflix and ABEMA.
