The music for this work is provided by a stellar lineup of Vocaloid producers, including ryo (supercell), who shocked the music industry with the hit “Melt” by the Vocaloid “Hatsune Miku,” as well as kz (livetune), 40mP, HoneyWorks, Aqu3ra, and yuigot. Utilizing Yamashita’s signature style of story-driven, emotional visuals and decisive action captured through 3D camerawork, the film depicts the bonds between girls connected by song and a live stage performance in the virtual world of “Tsukuyomi,” a world filled with dreams and hope.

Animation production is handled by Studio Colorido, known for its charming characters and dynamic visual direction in works such as “Penguin Highway” and “I Want to Cry, So I Put on a Cat Mask,” and by Studio Chromato, led by Yamashita, which is making its first production with the studio. Character design is handled by Hechima, co-creator of the character designs for “School Idolmaster,” and Nagae Akihiro, character designer and chief animation director for “The Drifting Apartment Complex: Rain Tells the Tale.”

This spectacular live entertainment experience, brought to life by these up-and-coming creators, is about to begin. The teaser visual released alongside the announcement depicts the protagonist, Kaguya, bowing gracefully with her hands clasped, yet sporting a somewhat mischievous smile. The kimono worn by Kaguya, along with the surrounding torii gates and lanterns, creates a Japanese atmosphere. Meanwhile, she is sitting on a “modern live stage” dazzling with countless sparkling penlights, creating a striking new worldview that blends the past and present.

The catchphrase, evocative of the ending of the classic “The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter,” is intriguing as well. Anticipation is building to see what kind of stage will be created by the unusual combination of modern entertainment, a “live music performance,” and Princess Kaguya, who was born over a thousand years ago.

The teaser trailer, which was also unveiled, begins with shamisen and other traditional Japanese instruments playing in the background, then pauses before Tsukimi Yachiyo (voiced by Hayami Saori) begins singing. She performs a lovely remix of “World is Mine CPK! Remix,” a popular Vocaloid song released in 2008, specially remixed for this film. Kaguya (voiced by Natsuyoshi Yuko ) and Sakyo Saiha (voiced by Nagase Anna) are also on hand.

The expressions of the three main characters, including Tsukimi Yachiyo (voiced by Hayami Saori), are also captivating. We can’t wait to see how Japan’s oldest story will be reborn on the live stage. Animation creator Seigo Yamashita, known for directing the opening credits for renowned works such as the first season of “Jujutsu Kaisen,” “Chainsaw Man,” and “Urusei Yatsura,” will be directing his first feature-length original animation, “Super Kaguyahime!”, which will be released worldwide exclusively on Netflix on January 22, 2026. We look forward to further updates. Director Seigo Yamashita has directed his first original feature-length animation! I’ve incorporated my strengths in visuals, my favorite characters, and my love for internet culture, which has continued since the 1990s. It’s a bright and fun work, so please enjoy it. Kaguya: Yuko Natsuyoshi. I’m Yuko Natsuyoshi, who will be playing the role of Kaguya. For someone like me, whose youth was fueled by Vocaloid music, this is a vast, honorable, and happy role.

The music and visuals are of incredibly high quality, with a highly luxurious lineup… I wanted to live up to everyone’s expectations, so I borrowed Kaguya’s power and sang and acted with all my heart! To all music lovers! Thank you! Sakayori Iroha: Anna Nagase “Super Kaguyahime!” is packed with animation brimming with director Seigo Yamashita’s attention to detail and the best music by a multitude of incredible artists. I am thrilled to be part of such an excellent production.

The snappy dialogue between Iroha and Kaguya was so much fun to record, and it was exciting to act. It’s a fun, cheerful, yet slightly sad story about two girls. I hope many people will watch it. Please look forward to it! Tsukimi Yachiyo: Saori Hayami. This is a rich, exciting production, enriched by a wealth of music. Yachiyo is the administrator of the virtual world “Tsukuyomi.” She’s bright and cute, but she harbors many emotions. Please keep an eye on the story she weaves with Kaguya and Ayaha.

This time, I also sang, and during the recording, I felt like her heart was coming out in her voice. Please enjoy the world of “Super Kaguyahime!”, woven together with gorgeous music and delicate, beautiful visuals. ryo (supercell) I wonder if Kaguyahime ever had moments when she thought, “What if I were an ordinary girl?” If she were alive today, would she become a game streamer or VTuber? No, no, no? But if that’s the case, this isn’t a story about some faraway person in some unknown world; it’s undoubtedly a story about us, about ourselves. I’ve also sung a new song this time, and I participated in a remix of “World is Mine.”

I hope you’ll look forward to the main story. yuigot: Watching the finished video, I could really feel the dedication of Director Yamashita and the production team. I was overwhelmed by every moment—Tsukuyomi’s fantastical scenery, the power of the live performance scenes, the thrilling storyline that kept me on the edge of my seat, and Kaguya and her friends’ expressive faces.

The message of this work is significant now, when voice synthesis and virtual talents have become commonplace. I am genuinely proud to have contributed to such excellent work through music. Aqu3ra: I worked closely with the anime production team to create the music, and I’m so happy that this work, which I’ve been working on alongside the anime, is now reaching everyone. With its artistic visual beauty and decisive anime action, this work will make you laugh, cry, and fall in love with the characters by the end. It’s a work that will refresh anyone looking for a glimpse into the future of internet culture, fans of Vocaloid and music, and even those who have been feeling undernourished lately. Please enjoy it. HoneyWorks: The visual expression that combines Japan’s oldest story, “Princess Kaguya,” with the music of online creators was genuinely breathtaking.

I look forward to its worldwide exclusive release on Netflix. 40mP: The story was still in the plot stage when the song was being created, but I was inspired by the many memorable words scattered throughout it and wrote it all in one go.

At the preview, I was overwhelmed by the expressive power of the visuals, captivated by Kaguya and the others’ song that seemed to fly across the screen, and even after watching it, I wanted to revisit Tsukuyomi’s world again and again. kz (livetune): My first impression when I first saw it was that it was such a fantastic work that I was stunned, thinking, “This animation is so good…”

The dialogue, the story, everything had a groove, and it felt like an excellent DJ you could dance to for the entire movie, making it hard to believe it was a long piece. I remember looking at Yuigot, who was sitting next to me, and Waga-kun, who was playing guitar, and saying, “That was so much fun!” I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. “Super Kaguyahime!” ” Available worldwide exclusively on Netflix from Thursday, January 22, 2026
