As the serialization progressed, the story began to focus on battles with rivals in the fictional trading card game “Magic & Wizards” (called ” Duel Monsters” in the anime ) and became extremely popular. “Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Game Card Game Duel Monsters,” based on the card game in the story, was commercialized, which sparked the rise of trading card game culture in Japan.
