Nippon Television will broadcast the anime film “Summer Wars” on its Friday Road Show program from 9:00 PM to 10:54 PM today, August 1st.
This is an original science fiction animation by director Mamoru Hosoda, known for such works as “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.” Studio Chizu’s “Summer Wars,” directed by Mamoru Hosoda, was released 16 years ago on August 1st, 2009, and August 1st is also the birthday of one of the story’s key characters, Grandma Sakae. Friday Road Show will air “Summer Wars” on August 1st in honor of this occasion.
The story is set in a society where the real world and the virtual world, “Oz,” coexist. Kenji Koiso, a timid and reserved high school student, visits the family home of a senior student he admires during summer vacation. Together with his extended family of 27, he must confront a global crisis.
The setting is the beautiful natural scenery of Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture, and the virtual world “Oz.” Events that occur in “OZ,” where avatars live lives that are no different from the real world, have a significant impact on the real world. Under the command of Grandma Sakae, head of the Jinnouchi family, they confront the enemies lurking within OZ.

One day, Kenji is asked by his senior, Natsuki, to visit her family home in Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture. Kenji is excited about the trip with his idol, but when Natsuki’s relatives gather to celebrate the birthday of her great-grandmother, Sakae, he is suddenly introduced as her fiancé. Meanwhile, a terrible incident occurs in the world of “OZ.” Kenji’s account has been hacked, causing system problems. Kenji becomes a suspect… Furthermore, this obstacle threatens to bring a crisis to the world…!
