“Nata: The Rampage of the Demonic Child” is a 3D CG animated film depicting the growth and adventures of “Nata,” a mythical young warrior who appears in works such as “Journey to the West” and “Engiance of the Gods.” Utilizing some of China’s most advanced CG technology, the film delivers stunning visual beauty and spectacular action.
When it premiered in China during the 2025 Chinese New Year, it became a social phenomenon across the country and was subsequently released in overseas markets. Its cumulative global box office revenue has surpassed 14.5 billion yuan (approximately 300 billion yen) in just over four weeks, surpassing “Inside Out 2” to become the highest-grossing animated film of all time. As of March 15, it has surpassed “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” to rank fifth in the global box office rankings, including live-action films. It has been in the top 10 in North America for three consecutive weeks and has earned a 99% audience satisfaction rating on the American film review site Rotten Tomatoes.
In the previous film, “Nata: The Demon Child’s Descent,” released in 2019, the heavenly treasure “Kongenju” split into two, resulting in Gohei receiving the “Spiritual Pearl,” destined to become a hero, and Nata receiving the “Demon Ball,” destined to become a demon king. One day, Nata and Gohei meet and become best friends, but they soon become embroiled in a battle and find themselves at odds with each other. After a fierce battle, the two lose their bodies, and only their souls remain. In “Nata: The Rampage of the Demon Child,” Nata’s master, Taiyi Zhenren, attempts to regenerate the bodies of Nata and Gohei.
The two face challenges to regain their bodies, but. Nata’s adventure unfolds as he defies fate, overcomes numerous obstacles, and grows as a person. In the Japanese dubbed version, Tamura Mutsumi plays Nata, the reincarnation of Mamaru, who was born with the destiny of becoming a demon king. In contrast, Masuda Toshiki plays Young Nata, who is the form of Nata after removing the demonic control tool “Qiankun Circle” and unleashing his true power.
