“Saga of Tanya the Evil” is based on a military fantasy novel by Carlo Zen, which has sold over 10 million copies. A rationalist, elite salaryman is reincarnated in another world as a blonde-haired, blue-eyed young girl named Tanya Degurechaff (voiced by Aoi Yuki). Contrary to her cute appearance, she rises to become an elite magical officer feared as a demon on the battlefield.
The series has gained popularity as an alternate-world story that features realistic depictions of aerial combat. The first season of the anime aired in 2017, the movie was released in 2019, and a second season has been announced. Ten days ago, Official X (formerly Twitter) suddenly posted an image with the letter “X,” and three days prior, they had been counting down with images reading “III,” “II,” and “I.”
The new teaser visual, released alongside the announcement of the second season’s broadcast schedule, depicts Tanya playing a burning piano, hinting at the intense plot twists to come. While the teaser PV begins as propaganda celebrating the Empire’s victory, it cuts to a flashback to “Existence X,” which blocked Tanya’s path in the first season, then shows Tanya struggling to resist it.
Also, as a surprise event coinciding with the PV’s release at 7 PM on the same day, GiGO Vision Ikebukuro in Tokyo screened the teaser PV and a selection of footage from the first season, along with guerrilla distribution of “war report newspapers.” Takayuki Yamamoto, the new director for the second season, commented, “I am highly honored to be involved in the production of The Saga of Tanya the Evil.
