In June, Tatsuki Fujimoto’s poignant tale of friendship, centered around art and other personal struggles, will be released in Japan.

Through its anime adaptation, a brand-new creation by mangaka Tatsuki Fujimoto, of Chainsaw Man renown, is being brought to life. The manga artist’s one-shot title serves as the basis for the upcoming film Look Back. On April 17 (IST), the anime film’s first trailer debuted, piqueing viewers’ curiosity with its charming animation style and eye-catching images that quickly took center stage.

The first teaser for Kiyotaka Oshiyama’s upcoming film Flip Flappers also included the main theme, Light Song, which was poignantly composed by Haruka Nakamura and inspired by Urara’s voice. The Japanese movie premiere of Look Back is scheduled for June 28, 2024.

Tatsuki Fujimoto’s tale develops a meta-narrative through the camaraderie between its co-protagonists, which is based on their love of manga drawing. The small-town girls’ shared interest in this pastime helps them to overcome their differences and come together, fostering a close bond between them via friendship and art.

This heartwarming story by Ayumu Fujino and Kyomoto weaves a journey unlike any other as it navigates a stormy landscape of personal tragedies and creative challenges.

The Look Back manga may be found on VIZ Media in English translation. Originally available on Shonen Jump+ in July 2021, Fujimoto’s 142-page one-shot was released.

Along with today’s trailer release, a key art visual and poster were also released. The production of the film is supported by Studio Durian, and Kiyoshi Sameshima is the art director.

Yumi Kawai will portray the “overconfident” Fujino, while Mizuki Yoshida will play the “shut-in” Kyomoto, who serves as Fujino’s platonic friend.

The news of the Look Back movie adaption was initially released in March. Although Studio Mappa animated Fujimoto’s masterpiece, Chainsaw Man, and the movie chapter that accompanied it, Studio Durian is ultimately responsible for the fate of his short story.
