Kenshi Yonezu’s “IRIS OUT,” the theme song for the movie “Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc,” is garnering attention and breaking even more astonishing records on the music charts.
The song has topped the Billboard JAPAN comprehensive song chart, “JAPAN Hot 100” (released October 29), for six consecutive weeks, with 16,088 points. This surpasses his previous record of five straight weeks at the top, set by Kenshi Yonezu’s “Lemon” in January 2019, and extends his own record-breaking streak.
The track’s record-breaking efforts don’t stop there. On the Oricon music charts (dated November 3), the song topped both the weekly streaming ranking and the weekly digital singles ranking, achieving its fourth digital double crown.
This week, the song has topped seven charts on Billboard JAPAN and Oricon, four of which have been at the top for six consecutive weeks. Its rapid advance in the streaming space is also remarkable. On Billboard JAPAN’s “Streaming Songs” streaming song chart, Kenshi Yonezu’s songs held the top three spots for two consecutive weeks, an unprecedented feat. “IRIS OUT” topped the charts for the sixth consecutive week with 19,494,535 streams, while the film’s ending theme, “JANE DOE” (a collaboration with Hikaru Utada), came in second with 9,885,724 streams, and “1991,” the theme song for the film “5 Centimeters per Second,” came in third with 6,996,414 streams. Yonezu is also breaking new records.
On the Billboard JAPAN “JAPAN Hot 100” released on October 1, he topped the charts with 29,533 points, achieving the highest number of points since the 2023 index change. His streaming record of 28,733,082 streams marks the “highest number of streams ever for a Japanese song.” It has also received high international acclaim, ranking fifth for two consecutive weeks on the US Billboard Global Chart “Global 200” (October 4 and October 11), setting a new record as the highest-ranking Japanese song to reach that position. Since its release on September 15, “IRIS OUT” has been breaking chart records both domestically and internationally. It has also become an unprecedented hit as a theme song for an anime, and continues to make new history in the music industry. How long will this momentum continue?
