Two brothers with vastly different destinies aim for the promised universe! This work is an animated human drama based on the manga of the same name by Chuya Koyama. In 2025, NASA announces the members of the first long-term lunar crew, including Japanese astronaut Hibito Nanba (voice: KENN). At the same time in Japan, Mutsuta Nanba (voiced by Hiroaki Hirata), a car designer, is fired from his company. Two brothers with vastly different destinies. However, their futures are set in motion by a promise made in childhood.
“Space Brothers” Introduction: Childhood. Brothers Mutta and Hibito made a promise under the stars to become astronauts. Now, in 2025, the younger brother, Hibito, has pursued his dream and become an astronaut himself. Selected as the first Japanese to serve on a lunar mission crew, Hibito attracts worldwide attention. Meanwhile, his older brother, Mutta, who works for a Japanese automobile manufacturer, gets into an argument with his boss, headbutts him, and is subsequently fired and deported back to his parents’ home.
Then, Mutta receives an email from Hibito. Driven by a childhood promise that “we’ll go to space together,” Mutta sets out for space once again, as if driven by a pledge reawakened from deep within his heart. Beyond the star-studded rivals and rigorous exams, space awaits.
The younger brother becomes an astronaut, and the older brother is unemployed. The younger brother fulfills his promise, and the older brother remembers it. The story of Space Brothers begins as they aim for the promised sky.
