Mystery is one of the most popular genres in anime. Many elements, such as bizarre cases, quirky detectives, and unpredictable criminals, excite viewers. Many people have their favorite mystery anime. So, Anime! Anime! Conducted a reader survey titled “What is your favorite mystery anime?” following last year. During the survey period from September 25th to September 28th, we received responses from 122 people. The gender ratio was about 30 percent men, about 65 percent women, and about 5 percent no response, with more women. The age group was mainly young people, with about 55 percent under 19 years old and about 15 percent in their 20s.
The latest works broadcast in 2024 also made it into the top 10! 1st place 1st place is “Detective Conan”. With a support rate of about 36%, it was the top again from last year. “There are many detectives, such as the main character Edogawa Conan, high school detective Hattori Heiji from the west, police officials, and even Kudo Shinichi, who has returned to his original form, so you never get bored. I like how Kogoro sometimes solves mysteries on his own while asleep” and “The mystery-solving depicted throughout the series is interesting, as well as the fun of deducing the case depicted in each episode, as well as the secrets that have yet to be revealed and characters who are not sure whether they are friends or enemies appear.”
Votes were collected from fans who enjoyed the unique characters and unexpected developments. “I’m excited by Shinichi and Ran’s innocent love!” and “I was watching the adult love between Detective Takagi and Detective Sato.” Viewers paying attention not only to the mystery but also to the love story are also noticeable. 2nd place is “Bungo Stray Dogs.” With a support rate of about 13%, this is also the same ranking as last year.
Although this work is a supernatural action film, it garnered so many votes due to the presence of Edogawa Ranpo, a detective character. Readers commented, “Edogawa Ranpo’s supernatural power of deduction is that he can find out the truth behind a case just by putting on his glasses, an unfair ability. Titles that draw you in with tense exchanges between wise men have again made it to the top this year. Coming in third is “The Kindaichi Case Files.” With a support rate of about 7 percent, the top three are the same as last year. “The protagonist is Kindaichi Hajime, the grandson of the famous detective Kindaichi Kosuke.
The events occur in eerie locations such as isolated islands and mansions and will send chills down your spine. “The contrast between the thrilling mystery and the comedy parts is amazing. It’s cool that Hajime takes on any difficult case head-on. ” The popular work, also famous for its catchphrase “I swear on my grandpa’s name,” was ranked.

For “The Forbidden Reasoning of Kamonohashi Ron,” “The mismatched duo of the genius detective and the naive detective is exhilarating,” and “With the second season finally starting, I’m looking forward to seeing what mysteries await Ron this time!” There were also votes for works about to air the latest series.
