On the auspicious occasion of June 8th, we celebrate the birthday of the illustrious Miyano Mamoru. This talented individual made his debut as a voice actor in the 2000s, and his journey has been nothing short of remarkable. His dedication to his craft has been recognized with multiple awards, including the prestigious Best Actor Award at the 2nd Seiyuu Awards, the Best Supporting Actor Award and the Singing Award as part of a group at the 6th, the Singing Award as an individual at the 8th, and the Influencer Award given to the voice actor who left the most impression on social media at the 14th. His achievements are a testament to his talent and hard work, inspiring us all.
In 2024, he will play various roles in TV anime, web anime, and movie dubbing, including “Burning Battery,” “Kinnikuman: The Perfect Superhuman Ancestor Arc,” “T.P. Bon,” and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.” He is celebrating his 15th anniversary as an artist and collaborating with the theme park Fuji-Q Highland. On April 26th, the collaboration theme song “Apollo” was distributed. So, to celebrate Miyano Mamoru’s birthday, we conducted a reader survey titled “Which character do you like the most out of the ones you have played?” as we did last year. During the survey period from May 28th to May 31st, we received responses from 620 people.
The gender ratio was about 20 percent men, about 70 percent women, and about 10 percent did not answer, with more women. The age group was mainly young people, about 40 percent under 19 years old and about 15 percent in their 20s.
Anime, special effects, stage… A variety of roles are ranked! The first place is Dazai Osamu from Bungo Stray Dogs. With a support rate of about 36 percent, he was at the top for the second consecutive year. “The carefree genius character is the perfect match for Miyano, who is good at both serious and gags! I was captivated by his usual high-tension and the dark secrets that lie hidden within,” and “He embodies the mysteriousness of being a joker who is smart and no one knows what he is thinking inside. And yet his voice is gentle, and he has the composure of an adult.” He plays a character with two sides. “Dazai’s time as a mafia member during the dark era was also memorable. His voice is even lower and insane,” and “Dazai’s playfulness is too Mamo-chan! You can enjoy his acting fully in the mini character “Bungo Stray Dogs Wan!” He is also popular for his appearance in the spin-off. 2nd place is Ichinose Tokiya from Uta no Prince-sama♪. With a support rate of about 7%, this is the second place for the second year. “I was shocked when I discovered that Miyano, who plays many lively and funny characters, was playing the cool Tokiya… He is the first person to teach me about ‘moe,'” “His sweet and calm voice is perfect for the serious Tokiya. I was also captivated by his sexy singing voice. Only Miyano can produce that sensual breath!” Many comments that this role makes the most of Miyano’s singing ability.
“The performance at the cast’s live show ‘Maji LOVE LIVE’ was amazing! Also, the Tokiya solo performance in the latest work ‘Maji LOVE Starlish Tours’ showed respect for Miyano. It’s admirable how the character and the voice actor improve each other.” Many fans who enjoyed the live show and the movie also commented. 3rd place 3rd place is Ultraman Zero from “Ultra Galaxy Legends: The Movie”. With a support rate of about 6%, he has moved up from 6th place last year. For Ultraman Zero, the son of Ultra Seven, “Even 15 years after his first appearance, he is still a popular hero. His immature and rough personality in the early days, his reliable older brother character in recent years, his various enhanced forms, his tsundere and cute personality… I love everything about him!” and “He’s always full of confidence, saying, ‘I have no limits!’ His tone is rough, and his atmosphere differs from the traditional Ultraman. Still, Miyano’s voice conveys the persuasiveness that he is a hero.” Popular characters who have appeared in many series were ranked.
There was also a comment that “he broke the stereotype of Ultraman in a good way.” He received many votes from readers who watched it as a child.
Here are some other comments! For Setsuna F. Seiei from “Mobile Suit Gundam 00,” “The main character became a hot topic for his strong line, ‘I am Gundam.’ He doesn’t show his emotions much, but his lament when he loses his older brother touches the viewers’ hearts. The scene where he awakens as an Innovator is also heartwarming!” For Pandora’s Actor from Overlord, “Miyano-san could only shout ‘Mmm, Ainz-sama!’ His overacting acting is outstanding, and the ad-libbed special trailer is also amazing.” For Tamaki Suoh from Ouran High School Host Club, “I love Tamaki-senpai, a super rich boy very interested in ordinary people’s lives. It’s adorable that he insists that his feelings for the main character, Haruhi, are not romantic, but more like love for his daughter.” For Kei Kaname from Forgetful Battery, “It’s a parade of gags with a good tempo. His one-liner ‘Paike!’ is a flop, but it’s funny. And yet, he can act well in serious scenes, as expected!” There were also votes for titles currently airing. The 2024 edition brings together characters from various genres, including anime, special effects, dubbing of foreign films, and musicals. The results clearly show that he is active in multiple media.
