‘Zootopia 2’ becomes the fastest Disney & Pixar animated film to surpass 4 billion yen in domestic box office revenue

Disney Animation’s “Zootopia 2,” released in Japan on December 5th, surpassed ¥4 billion in domestic box office revenue in just 10 days, the fastest in Disney & Pixar Animation history. It also surpassed $1 billion in worldwide box office revenue, surpassing $1.1 billion as of December 15th, the fastest in animation history.

It also topped the rankings in its second week of release. It attracted 3,015,156 domestic viewers and grossed ¥4,283,140,000. It recorded a 96.3% increase over the previous weekend, demonstrating its high film reviews.

In addition to repeat viewings by fans, the film is gaining support from a wide range of audiences through word of mouth. To commemorate the film’s record-breaking success, new giveaways are being distributed at theaters nationwide.

This third installment features “Zootopia 2” Christmas Limited Character Cards. The lineup includes five characters from the previous film, as well as new characters joining the cast in this one.

The Zootopia Theater, which has been a massive success since its release, has announced that a second season will open at six theaters nationwide, including five new ones. Special seats in the theaters feature 12 characters, including Judy, Nick, Gary, Nibbles, and Paubert, making viewers feel like they’re part of the film. Special greeting videos from Japanese voice actors Aya Ueto (Judy), Toshiyuki Morikawa (Nick), and Hiro Shimono (Gary) will also be shown before the primary screening.

Additionally, special smartphone stickers featuring Judy and Nick sitting in theater seats, distributed in the first season, will be distributed again. Starting December 19th, three select episodes of “Zootopia+,” currently streaming exclusively on Disney+, will be available for free for a limited time. Enjoy this original short animated series that delves deeper into the daily lives and behind-the-scenes of popular characters not depicted in “Zootopia.”
