The relationship between Naruto and Sasuke is one of the most significant in the whole series, and the best approach to analyze their relationship is through the lens of Yin-Yang symbolism. Chinese philosophy gave rise to the idea of Yin and Yang, which describes opposing energies balancing each other out.
Author Masashi Kishimoto frequently done this in the manga, using the link between the two characters as a means of contrasting and comparing their arcs. Despite being nearly complete opposites, they are linked by the relationship between Ashura and Indra.
But the script had already established the two as the series’ Yin and Yang even before the reincarnation plot element.

Explaining how superbly Naruto and Sasuke embody the Yin-Yang concept
As was previously noted, the idea of Yin and Yang originates in Chinese philosophy and describes how opposing forces work in harmony to maintain equilibrium. Yang is typically seen as light, and Yin is frequently seen as darkness, which is a perfect match for Sasuke and Naruto.
Sasuke’s outfit from the beginning tends to be darker and more subdued, while the protagonist’s clothing is more colorful and striking, emphasizing the protagonist’s outgoing and joyful disposition and Sasuke’s more reserved and introverted demeanor.
It’s also important to note that, although young Uzumaki began the series as a pretty incompetent ninja student who had been abandoned since birth, young Uchiha began as a ninja genius who had lost his family.
In the manga’s chapter 234 after the two first confronted each other at the Valley of the End during the Sasuke Retrieval arc, a very clear illustration of this idea was presented.
The youthful Uchiha strode into actual darkness, while Kakashi Hatake took the main character into the light. This demonstrated how one was forging relationships while the other was losing himself in revenge, and it also reflected their emotional states at that part of the series.
The reincarnation concept was another significant addition made later in the novel by author Masashi Kishimoto. It was verified that Sasuke and Naruto were siblings doomed to battle one another and that they were the reincarnations of Indra and Ashura, respectively.
They were meant to become close friends and then battle each other to the death, just like Madara Uchiha and Hashirama Senju did before them.
But unlike Madara and Hashirama, Naruto never lost up on Sasuke and made an effort to turn him around, just as he did with Zabuza, Neji, Gaara, and evenādespite how divisive those latter two were in the fandomāNagato and Obito.
The young Uzumaki persisted in attempting to understand Sasuke as he was trying to push everyone away in order to grow stronger and give himself away for retribution, and eventually they were able to reconcile and become friends once more.
