The Rose of Versailles is set in the latter half of the 18th century, during the French Revolution. A work depicts the love and life of the innocent Queen Marie Antoinette. A story of love and destiny, each of whom lived their lives to the fullest despite being at the mercy of the times.
It was serialized in “Weekly Margaret” (Shueisha) from 1972 to 1973, and Margaret Comics published ten volumes. The circulation has exceeded 20 million copies.
It is said to be a pioneer of the media mix, and in 1974 it was made into a stage play by the Takarazuka Revue Company, followed by a television animation in 1979 and a movie in 1990, causing social phenomena in various fields.
The unveiled teaser visual depicts Oscar François de Jarger and Marie Antoinette beautifully, along with the slogan “Fierce, beautiful, and alive.” The special report shows the original manga and teaser visuals along with classical music.
In addition, Mr. Ikeda’s newly drawn celebratory illustration depicts Oscar and Marie Antoinette along with the comment, “Don’t forget it forever.”
Regarding theatrical animation, Mr. Ikeda said, “I often receive requests for new animation from many fans, so I’m full of surprises and happiness that it will come true.” Regarding the existence of “Nobara,” he commented, “The work is something that the reader can feel, and it’s difficult for me to ask what it is, but I’m thrilled that it will be read over generations.”
