Anime ‘MONSTERS’ to be distributed in January next year, a visual released based on Eiichiro Oda’s short story one-shot.

“Monsters Ippyakusanjo Hiryuu Jigoku” is the first animated version of the short story “MONSTERS” by Eiichiro Oda, author of the popular manga “ONE Piece. It has been decided that simultaneous worldwide distribution will begin in January 2024. It will be the fastest distribution on Netflix and Prime Video in Japan.

The released critical visual depicts a close-up of Ryuma, Flare, and Cyrano, all connected by their ties to dragons, and Ryuma boldly confronting the dragon, a symbol of fear.

In addition, the main character Ryuma, a young samurai who wanders in search of the “soul of a soldier,” Flare, the only survivor of a town that was attacked by a dragon seven years ago, and Visuals of characters with distinct personalities have also been released, such as Cyrano, a top swordsman who continues his journey to retrieve the lost dragon’s horn. Character voices will be announced at a later date.

“MONSTERS” is a story depicting the samurai Ryuma’s sword fighting drama, and was published as a 45-page short one-shot in an extra issue of “Weekly Shonen Jump” in 1994, before “ONE PIECE” was serialized (1997-currently being serialized) and published in the “Weekly Shonen Jump Special Edition 1994 Autumn Special” issue.

The story’s content is that in a peaceful era, “fear” dances in the sky, disrupting the slow flow of time. “Fear” means the absolute destruction of the land. The story is that it was the appearance of a dragon.

The staff working on this anime will be directed and composed by Mr. Park Sung Ho, who also participated as an animator on “ONE PIECE FILM Z” (director of the TV anime “Jujutsu Kaisen” season 1, “Jujutsu Kaisen the Movie 0”); E&H production is in charge of production—produced as an animation with the length of one TV anime episode. The anime is not a series production, and future information will be announced occasionally in Weekly Shonen Jump.
