The overwhelming strength of Ryomen Sukuna (voiced by Suwabe Junichi ), the “King of Curses,” is unfathomable. The stronger the opponent he faces, the more prominent it becomes. In the episode where even Mahito ( voiced by Shimazaki Nobunaga ), who has a unique presence even among the special-grade cursed spirits, was treated like a weakling by Sukuna, viewers were surprised, saying, “He’s in a different league,” and “He has an incredible sense of being a big shot.”

The currently streaming anime ” Jujutsu Kaisen ” is based on the manga of the same name by Gege Akutami. The manga has sold over 90 million copies and depicts the battle between “curses” born from negative human emotions and sorcerers who exorcise them with sorcery. The story begins when Yuji Itadori (CV: Junya Enoki ), who ends up sharing a body with the “King of Curses” Ryomen Sukuna, transfers to the “Jujutsu Technical College,” a specialized institution for fighting curses.

In episode 12, where Itadori comes face to face with the special-grade cursed spirit Mahito, Itadori is tricked by Mahito into fighting Junpei Yoshino (CV: Yoshio Yamatani), a high school student with whom Itadori has a relationship. Junpei has been turned into a cyborg by Mahito’s ability to touch souls and change form. Itadori asks Sukuna, inside his body, for help returning Junpei to his original form. However, Sukuna rejects Itadori’s request and laughs at Itadori for clinging to him, saying, “How hilarious, how hilarious!”

Seeing this, Mahito, who laughed at Itadori along with him, devised a plan to get Sukuna on his side. He then touched Itadori’s body and said, “You can’t beat me. Why don’t you take my place, Sukuna?”

However, when Mahito was about to activate “Muitenhen,” he also touched the soul of Sukuna residing within Itadori. At that moment, a sulky Sukuna appeared in Mahito’s mind. Sukuna’s cheerful demeanor suddenly changed, and he said, “You want to touch my soul? I’ll forgive you once, but not again,” and spat out at Mahito, who was too scared to move, “Know your place, you fool.”

The breathtaking intimidation of Sukuna caused a flurry of reactions on X (formerly Twitter), such as “He’s on a different level,” “He looks like an incredible big shot,” and “Just how much more superior is he?”. Despite being an overwhelmingly evil character, there were also comments like “Sukuna is so cool…”

The first season of the anime began airing in October 2020. It garnered a great response not only in Japan but also around the world. The second season, which aired from July to December 2023, depicted the story of Gojo Satoru and the worst curse user, Geto Suguru (CV: Sakurai Takahiro), during their time at a technical college, “Kaitama/Gyokuori,” as well as the story of the Shibuya Incident, which continues from the first season. A sequel, “Shimetsu Kaiyuu,” has also been confirmed for production.
