The Japan Anime Trend Awards 2024 will look back on the trends 2024 and introduce the hot topics of 2025. The main MC will be Haraichi’s Iwai Yuuki, and the sub-MC will be Adachi Rika. Guests include Tenshinhan Dairo, Tokui Sora, Hamada Tatsuomi, and other anime-loving celebrities. This time, the “Best Episode” category, which selects the most talked-about “Best Episode” out of the three categories of the ABEMA Special Award, was awarded to “Girls Band Cry” episode 8.
The award went to a girl’s band anime that combines anime and a real band. In this work, the main character, Nina, who was isolated and unable to fit in at high school, is inspired by the singing of Momoka, who later becomes a band member and drops out of high school to move to Tokyo to become a musician. Meanwhile, Momoka’s band makes its major debut, but she quits the band in rebellion against the company due to differences in direction. She then meets Nina and forms a band called “Togenashi Togeari.” However, Nina wants to make her major debut, while Momoka is against it, and they end up in conflict.
In “Episode 8,” we see how Nina, who decided to devote her life to the band after meeting Momoka, and Momoka, who loves the band but is afraid to aim to become a professional, finally come to a resolution. The excellent script, which was finished as a story of only “everyday parts” depicting the conflicts between the members, is the reason for the class.
Hirayama Masashi (Producer, Toei Animation) Episode 8 was broadcast after the previous episode, episode 7, in which the five members of “Togenashi Togeari” performed live together for the first time.
The drama was fascinating, and this episode is particularly memorable as it saw increased viewers. It was a difficult episode to produce, so I am thrilled it was highly praised. Thank you. From now on, many developments are planned for “Girls Band Cry.”
