He’s going to get eaten. Frieren’s ‘standard trick’ of finding a treasure chest and getting bitten by a Mimic, as usual

This is what they call “tension and relaxation”! A well-known staple of the anime ” Furiren’s Funeral ” is the “conventional” sequence in which Furiren, who confidently opens a treasure chest without realizing it’s a trap, is nearly eaten headfirst by a Mimic. A scene like this traditional art form awaited me even after the intense magic battle that was like the final boss battle.

The currently streaming anime “Furieren: The Finale” is based on the manga of the same name, written by Yamada Kanehito and illustrated by Abe Tsukasa, which is currently being serialized in “Weekly Shonen Sunday.” Set in a world “after” the Demon King has been defeated, the story follows the 1000-year-old elven magician Frieren (voiced by Tanezaki Atsumi ) as she embarks on a “journey to get to know people” with her apprentice Fern (voiced by Ichinose Kana ) and warrior Stark (voiced by Kobayashi Chiaki).

The original comics have won numerous awards and have received overwhelming support and acclaim, with the 13 volumes already published having sold over 22 million copies. The TV anime series, which aired from September 2023 to March 2024, became a huge hit, with many related words trending on X (formerly Twitter) after each episode. The production of the second season of the anime has also been announced.

In the second test of the first-class wizard selection exam, Frieren and his wizards attempt to conquer the dungeon “Tomb of the Fallen King.” The final hurdle awaits them at the deepest part of the dungeon, a battle with clones with the same abilities as the test-takers. The test-takers work together to fight against clones of everyone. As expected, the most challenging obstacle is the clone of Frieren, a powerful wizard whose name is known to all wizards. The two who take on the clone are Frieren himself and Fern, who knows Frieren well as his apprentice. They join forces to challenge the clone of Frieren, and the battle is extremely fierce.

Nevertheless, Freiren managed to defeat her duplicate, and the battle between Freiren and Freiren was finally decided. Including the other candidates who managed to hold out until the end, 12 people conquered the “Tomb of the Fallen King” and passed the second test.

As the group proceeds to the treasure vault and is informed of their success, Frieren is nowhere to be seen. Denken (CV: Saito Jiro) asks, “So where did the most outstanding contributor go?” and sees something moving around in the corner of the room. There, Frieren appears, stomping her feet around as if she’s about to be eaten from the waist up after diving headfirst into a treasure chest, or rather a mimic, and screams, “It’s scary, it’s scary!”

It was a “standard” joke shown immediately after a fierce magic battle that was like a “final boss battle.” Even Denken was at a loss for words at the skilled magician’s pathetic state.
