A joint exhibition of the TV anime “Mashin Hero Wataru” and its first series “Mashin Hero Wataru”, “Mashin Hero Wataru & Mashin Hero Wataru Exhibition”, will be held at Gallery AaMo in Tokyo Dome City from July 12, 2025.
The highlights of the exhibition have been revealed, along with information on visitor benefits and merchandise. Additionally, it has been announced that there will be collaboration projects with “NG Knight Ramune & 40” and “I, Shimaenaga.”
“Mashhin Hero Wataru” is an anime series that began with “Mashhin Hero Wataru”, a total of 45 episodes, which aired from April 1988 to March 1989, followed by the second installment “Mashhin Hero Wataru 2” in March 1990 and the third installment “Cho Mashin Hero Wataru” in October 1997.
The story follows the righteous and energetic fourth-grader Hoshibe Wataru, who is transported to another world, the Shinbekai, where he embarks on a journey with his friends to save Mount Soukai, which the evil Emperor Doakda rules.
In April 2020, the long-awaited new web anime “Mashhin Hero Wataru: Ryuujinmaru of the Seven Souls,” a total of nine episodes, was released on YouTube’s “BANDAI SPIRITS Official Channel.” In addition, a special edited version with new scenes, “Mashhin Hero Wataru: Ryuujinmaru of the Seven Souls – Reunion,” was released in theaters in 2022, which also attracted attention. “Mashhin Creation Legend Wataru” is the latest TV anime in the series and aired from January to June 2025.
In this new work, which inherits the essence of the original series while being spun into a new job, the protagonist, Hoshibe Wataru, appears as a YouTuber aiming to become a superstar. Together with his partner, the genie Ryujinmaru, he went on a buzz-worthy adventure battle in a parallel world of floating blocks.
The joint exhibition “Mashin Hero Wataru & Mashin Creation Wataru Exhibition” will showcase the charm of the Wataru series, which has been supported by fans of all ages, genders, and nationalities in various ways. There will be a variety of “funny, cool,” and “instantly immersive” experience-based content that will allow you to thoroughly enjoy the worldview of the work. In the newly recorded audio guide that can only be heard at this exhibition, you can enjoy the adventure stories of the savior of Soukaiyama, Senbe Wataru (CV. Mayumi Tanaka), and the savior of Soukai, Hoshibe Wataru (CV. Mutsumi Tamura), looking back on the events that took place in their respective “worlds”. In addition, Senbe Wataru and Torao from “Mashhin Hero Wataru” and Hoshibe Wataru and Tenbe Kakeru from “Mashhin Creation Wataru” will appear as MR (mixed reality) characters at the venue. You can experience a greeting using a device that makes you feel as if the characters are in the real scenery. The merchandise corner will also be selling digital figures of the same model as the MR characters.
Additionally, photo spots will be set up where visitors can take photos that immerse themselves in the world of the series, such as the “Ryujinmaru Cockpit” from “Mashhin Hero Wataru” and the “Block Ryujinmaru” from “Mashhin Creation Legend Wataru”.
There will also be a chance to meet Ryujinmaru from “Mashhin Creation Legend Wataru”, and there will be plenty to see, including explanations of the series’ past, valuable documents, copyrights, and toys from that time on display. Visitors will also be presented with a digital figure of Ryujinmaru from “Mashhin Hero Wataru” or Ryujinmaru from “Mashhin Creation Legend Wataru”.
The digital figures can be enlarged, and with a smartphone and the dedicated app, visitors can enjoy them in a variety of ways, such as “photographing” and “displaying” them anytime, anywhere. In addition, merchandise for sale will feature original illustrations by Momoko Makiuchi, character designer for “Mashhin Hero Wataru: Ryuujinmaru of the Seven Souls,” and Mayuko Nakano, character designer for “Mashhin Creation Legend Wataru,” as well as Yumoto Yoshinori, among others, and will include a wide range of products sure to tickle the imagination of children, such as metal keychains of the “Ryuuou no Ken” and “Kamisouryuuken,” and a set of two Hi-Mackie sticks. Don’t miss out on the bonus of receiving an original “Enemy Genie” card from the TV series at random for every 3,000 yen you spend (tax included) in one transaction.
In addition, to commemorate the opening of this exhibition, there will be a spectacular collaboration with “NG Knight Ramune & 40” and “I, Shimaenaga.” In a dream collaboration with “NG Knight Ramune & 40”, which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, commemorative goods using the key visual drawn by Hiroshi Kamishina, director of “Mashhin Hero Wataru: Seven Souls of Ryuujinmaru”, and Takuya Saito, character designer of “NG Knight Ramune & 40”, will be sold at the exhibition.
