August 1st is “Water Day.” Since August is the month with the highest water usage of the year, this commemorative day was established to deepen public understanding of water.
Many water-related characters appear in anime. They can freely control water, have a light blue aesthetic, have water-related names, or have water-related anecdotes… So, Anime! Conducted its annual reader survey titled “Who is your favorite water character?” We received 732 responses from July 19th to July 25th. The gender ratio was approximately 40% male and 60% female, with a slight female predominance. The age demographic was primarily young, with approximately 50% under 19 and approximately 20% in their 20s.
“Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” ‘s Giyu Tomioka tops the list for the third consecutive year! Taking the top spot was Giyu Tomioka from “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.” With a support rate of approximately 28%, he topped the list for the third consecutive year. “I vote for Giyu Tomioka, the Water Pillar who mastered the Water Breathing technique. His disciple Tanjiro also uses the Water Breathing technique, but he’s the only one who can master the Eleventh Form: Calm!” “Though he has a clumsy side, he’s a reliable presence who covers for his comrades in times of need. I’m glad Giyu was the first Pillar Tanjiro met.”
This character, who plays a vital role in the protagonist’s life, took the top spot. Fans who have already seen the currently-released “Infinity Castle Arc: Chapter 1: Akaza Returns,” praised the battle scenes, saying, “The film unleashed one impressive technique after another, complete with gorgeous water effects. I can’t wait for Chapter 2!” and “I just saw it, so Giyu is by far my favorite. He was cooler than I imagined.” Coming in second place was Aqua from “KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World!” With a support rate of about 11 percent, she placed second for the third year in a row.
Comments included, “She’s a useless goddess who’s not trusted despite being the goddess of water. Her silly and clumsy personality is comforting. In the battle with the Dullahan, she floods the city and ends up with a huge debt. Though her power is impressive (lol), her party skill, Flowers, Birds, Wind, and Moon, makes her easy to watch, and “Aqua’s crying face is always hilarious.” She possesses the kind of outrageous charm you’d expect from a party troublemaker.
A new film will be released in theaters this year, and a sequel has also been confirmed. She’s attracting more and more attention. Coming in third place is Mizuno Ami/Sailor Mercury from “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon.” Her support rate was about 7 percent, and the top three were the same characters as last year. “It’s a series I’ve watched since I was a child, so it immediately came to mind. ‘Pour water over yourself and reflect on your actions!'” “I remember well how she introduced herself when she transformed.
“The blue sailor uniform suits the intelligent Ami-chan well. Many of her special moves were water or bubbles. She is the original water-based fighting heroine. Her blue hair and gentle personality also evoke pure water, and other characters who have been loved for many years have made the list.
Here are some other comments! For Roxy Migurdia from “Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation,” She is a water saint-class magician and the teacher of the main character, Rudeus. The scene where she chanted the Cymro Nimbus as an example during the graduation exam was breathtaking.” For Karim Al-Asim from “Disney Twisted Wonderland,” Her unique magic, “Undying Blessing” (Oasis Maker), allows her to produce large amounts of water. She is sure to be a big hit in the desert country! It’s a magic you’ll want right now.” “Aquaman” was described as “King of Atlantis, and his gold costume was cool. In this year’s Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League, he was portrayed as a Japanese man named Suiryuno Asa, rather than his real name, Arthur Curry.”
“A Certain Scientific Railgun” Wanuchi Kinuyasu was described as “a Level 3 water current manipulation (Hydro Hand) user. He can freely control up to four water masses, totaling about 300 liters.” Votes were also cast for titles with a fourth season of the anime. In the 2025 edition, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba,” the latest film currently in theaters, topped the list with a double score. Box office revenue has already surpassed 10 billion yen, and this result is gaining momentum.
