Voices of sympathy for the older man camper who prefers “solo” camping
With most of the Fall 2025 anime series currently airing, the whole storylines are gradually emerging. Among them are works featuring “plain, unassuming older men” as protagonists that have surprisingly garnered positive reviews from viewers. Based on the manga by Yudai Deguchi, the anime “Futari Solo Camp” began airing in two consecutive seasons in July 2025.
The story begins when 34-year-old, genuine, older solo camper Gen Kinokura (voiced by Daiki Hamano) meets a completely novice female camper, Shizuku Kusano (voiced by Mizuki Nizaki), and the two end up going on a solo camping trip together. While centered around the theme of “valuing alone time,” the series’s carefully crafted depictions of practical outdoor activities, such as transporting camping gear and cooking outdoors, have earned it popularity.
Furthermore, one of the show’s charms lies in the human drama of two people of different values and ages who influence each other and grow as they face off against Shizuku, who is naive and selfish, and the type of person Gen prefers to be alone with.
Many online commenters have expressed sympathy for the protagonist, who enjoys being alone, saying, “It’s like watching myself.” In contrast, others have described “healing” feelings from the sense of distance and dialogue between Gen and Shizuku. The show has also garnered high support from viewers as a popular “camping” series in recent years. The anime “Futari Solo Camp” airs every Thursday from 12:30 am on TOKYO MX and other channels.
Serious adults gather to play “Kamen Rider.”
The anime “Tanzaburou Higashijima Wants to Become Kamen Rider” is based on the manga by Yuko Shibata and has already drawn the attention of many viewers this season.
The story centers on the protagonist, Tanzaburou Higashijima (voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi), who, even at age 40, continues to train with the dream of “becoming Kamen Rider one day.” One day, his life takes a significant turn when he encounters a robber disguised as Shocker.
While the series explores Higashijima’s past, when those around him shunned him since his school days for the earnest pursuit of his dream to become Kamen Rider, the show also boasts exciting action scenes in which he uses his well-trained physique to unleash Rider Punches and Kicks. As the story progresses, real Shocker and monsters appear, captivating viewers with their increasingly chaotic plot.
Additionally, the series features a series of characters who put everything on the line to seriously play “rider,” such as the female character “Okada Yuriko (CV: Kayano Ai )” who dresses up as “Denpa Ningen Tackle,” and “Shimamura Kazuha (CV: Suzumura Kenichi)” who “transforms” into Kamen Rider V3, bringing back memories for longtime fans and seeming fresh to first-time viewers. Don’t miss the upcoming developments. The anime “Higashijima Tanzaburou Wants to Become Kamen Rider” is currently airing on TOKYO MX, BS11, and other networks every Saturday from 12:30 am.
