The theatrical version of “My Dangerous Wife” will be released nationwide on Friday, February 13, 2026. Ahead of this memorable release, the theme song, trailer, and second round of movie tickets have been announced.
“My Dangerous Wife” is the latest work by Norio Sakurai, currently serialized in “Champion Cross” (Akita Shoten), and has sold over 6.5 million copies.
This youthful first-love romantic comedy revolves around Kyotaro Ichikawa, a shy middle school student with chunibyo, and Anna Yamada, a cheerful, beautiful girl. Kyotaro Ichikawa, the protagonist, is a boy with a complicated case of chunibyo who loves to read “Murder Encyclopedia” and “Anatomy Atlas.”
Anna Yamada, a popular girl in his class, suddenly enters Ichikawa’s quiet world. He munches on rice balls and hums in the library. Then, suddenly, they get closer… Though Ichikawa is confused by Yamada’s unpredictable behavior, he finds himself thinking about him. Meanwhile, as Yamada talks with Ichikawa, he gradually becomes curious about him. For the first time, he experiences love. Overcoming misunderstandings and awkward feelings, the two slowly but surely grow closer.
The first season of the TV anime will air in April 2023, followed by the second season in January 2024 on TV Asahi’s “NUMAnimation” slot on 24 stations nationwide, BS Asahi, and CS TV Asahi Channel 1. The second season won the Grand Prize in the 2D Animation category at the 29th Asian Television Awards, creating a huge buzz both in Japan and overseas.
This popular series is now returning to theaters. The film re-edits the TV anime series from Ichikawa’s perspective, depicting events that occurred after the second season, not shown on TV, including a live performance scene with his sister Kana and a special moment with Yamada, all in brand new footage.
The main visual released this time features a striking image of Ichikawa Kyotaro and Yamada Anna standing amidst a row of cherry blossom trees in full bloom. The pair, each with their own feelings in mind and expressions of somewhat strong emotion, create a sense of their previous awkward yet straightforward relationship, while also evoking a slightly different, new atmosphere.
The falling cherry blossom petals further enhance the soft yet poignant worldview. In the background, Moeko Sekine, Chihiro Kobayashi, and Serina Yoshida appear to be enjoying themselves, along with Haruya Nanjo, quietly gazing at Yamada. The visuals evoke a different atmosphere from the TV anime series. Meanwhile, the trailer carefully revisits the relationship between Ichikawa and Yamada that has developed over the years.
The film is peppered with scenes that look back on the pair’s journey since the TV anime, creating a heart-wrenching composition for fans who have followed the series closely. Additionally, a new scene debuts, featuring Ichikawa Kana (Onee) performing with her band. Accompanied by Onee’s band, “Primary COLOR’s” song “Tsudzuku,” the film features immersive footage that captures the excitement of the stage and the audience’s cheers, fully conveying the film’s power. And towards the end, there’s a breathtaking scene, set to the theme song “Akane” by Yorushika, in which Ichikawa and Yamada’s feelings suddenly seem to connect.
This memorable scene, overflowing with innocence and bittersweetness, gives the sense that their relationship is truly moving forward and will surely make your heart flutter. Throughout, the delicate sense of distance characteristic of “BokuYaba” so far is naturally interwoven with new developments that could only be depicted in the film, further raising expectations for the film. Yorushika’s “Akane,” the opening theme for the first season of the TV anime, debuted today, December 1, 2025, in the official trailer.
The second round of advanced Mubichike tickets (cards) has also been announced. This highly anticipated lineup includes various special bonuses. This release of information was packed with content that fans couldn’t wait for. Fans will likely continue to enjoy further updates. The theatrical version of “My Dangerous Girlfriend,” depicting the youthful dreams we all yearn for, will be released nationwide on Friday, February 13, 2026.
The full comment is below: n-buna (Yorushika): “I love Shimazaki Toson’s poetry collection, Wakanashu, and I often read it. One of the poems in it is titled Shiruya Kimi (Wakana), and I transcribed “Akane” under its direct influence. For some reason, “My Dangerous Girlfriend” evokes the image of dusk. It may be that their relationship gives this impression, or I also have a hunch that the bright red color is the ultimate nostalgia for our school days. I hope that this song, Akane, along with Shayo, which I previously provided, will become part of the coloring of the film “My Dangerous Girlfriend.” n-buna (Yorushika) Movie version “My Dangerous Girlfriend.”
