Masayuki Suzuki and Aoi Koga will sing the theme song for the new anime ‘Kaguya-sama: Love is War.’

“Kaguya-sama: Love Is War: The Stairway to Adulthood” is the latest installment in the popular series. It will air on TOKYO MX and other channels from 10:00 PM on December 31st. Suzuki has been in charge of the theme songs for all of the “Kaguya-sama: Love Is War” series since its anime debut in 2019, making this his fifth consecutive song.

“Abunaikioku” features his duet partner, Aoi Koga, who voices the main character, Kaguya Shinomiya. Suzuki said of Koga during the recording, “She understood the world I was trying to portray in the song and was able to immerse herself in it and express it fully. It was truly incredible.” Koga also commented on his experience singing with Suzuki, saying, “My whole body is still trembling.” He also commented on the song, “I was conscious of the subtitle of this work, ‘The Stairway to Adulthood,’ and thought of Kaguya and the others’ past, and poured all my heart into it.” Comment from Suzuki Masayuki: I’m Suzuki Masayuki, a “major newcomer in the anime song world,” returning after nearly three years.

This marks my fifth consecutive theme song for the “Kaguya-sama: Love is War” series since the anime began in 2019. I’ll be turning 70 next year, but walking this path alongside such a fantastic series makes me realize what it means to have been singing for 45 years. I’ve met Koga Aoi, my duet partner on the latest song, “Abunaikioku,” several times at “Kaguya-sama” events, but this was our first time recording together. Her understanding and immersion in the world I was trying to portray in the song were awe-inspiring.

The song captures the new dynamics of their love after three years. First, let’s listen to this song and look forward to the new love battle of wits that will air at the end of the year. Koga Aoi’s comment: From the first season of “Kaguya-sama: Love is War” through to the present, Suzuki Masayuki has supported and colored the series with his opening theme songs, and has walked this journey with me.

I never thought I’d get to sing the opening theme this time! My whole body is still trembling. I’m thrilled and honored, and because it’s the opening theme for a special series to me, a variety of emotions are running through my mind. I was very nervous when recording “Abunaikioku.” Still, I kept the series’ subtitle, “The Stairway to Adulthood,” in mind and poured my heart into it, thinking about Kaguya and her friends’ past. I hope you listen to the song as much as you like and expand the world of Kaguya-sama. Thank you.
