‘Funeral of Freiren’ Season 2 is about to start! Season 1 pick-ups will be broadcast for seven consecutive nights at midnight, including ‘Aura of the Guillotine’ and ‘Because I’ll Be Embarrassed When We Meet Again.’

The second season of the TV anime “Funeral of Freiren” will begin airing on January 16, 2026, on the “FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT” slot on 30 Nippon Television affiliates nationwide. Before this, a total of 20 episodes from the first season will be broadcast locally in the Kanto region over seven consecutive nights starting late at night on January 9.

“Funeral of Freiren” is a manga currently being serialized in Shogakukan’s “Weekly Shonen Sunday” magazine, written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe. Set in a world “after” a hero and his party defeat the Demon King, the story follows the journey of Freiren, a magician who has lived for over a thousand years and who defeated the Demon King alongside the hero, and the new people she meets.

The story unfolds in a unique “after the Demon King’s defeat” timeline, featuring heart-wrenching drama and dialogue, Magic and sword battles, and unintentional humor. It has garnered a large readership thanks to its interwoven characters.

The currently available comics have sold over 32 million copies worldwide, creating a sensation among manga fans. The TV anime based on the series aired its first season from September 2023 to March 2024, garnering a wide fanbase and strong response both in Japan and overseas. Freiren’s journey to discover the human heart will resume with Fern, a magician raised by her former companion Heiter, and Stark, a warrior apprentice to fellow companion Eisen, as they head to Aureole, the land where souls rest.

The second season, scheduled to premiere in January 2026, will feature a special episode, “Funeral of Freiren: Season 2 Starts! Season 1 Pickup Broadcast,” which will be broadcast locally in the Kanto region. This special will feature 20 episodes from the first season, selected for pre-season review.
