New reactions have poured in following the November 1, 2026 rebroadcast of Episode 4 of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Mugen Train Arc. Titled “Insult,” the episode features one of Tanjiro Kamado’s most emotional moments as he refuses to let Enmu, Lower Rank One of the Twelve Kizuki, insult his family.
The episode explores the characters’ unconscious worlds, Tanjiro’s struggle to escape Enmu’s powerful Blood Demon Art, and the painful memories of the Kamado family. While Tanjiro’s determination moved viewers, Inosuke Hashibira’s explosive awakening also brought some much-needed humour to the tense situation.
The episode’s emotional highlights quickly became a talking point among fans, particularly Tanjiro’s powerful declaration: “Don’t insult my family!” Viewers praised the scene for showing how deeply his family continues to influence and support him, even after their tragic deaths.

What Is Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba About?
Based on the manga by Koyoharu Gotouge, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba follows Tanjiro Kamado, a kind-hearted boy whose life changes forever when a demon attacks his family. Most of his family members are killed, while his younger sister, Nezuko, survives but is transformed into a demon.
Determined to find a way to turn Nezuko back into a human, Tanjiro joins the Demon Slayer Corps, an organisation dedicated to protecting people from demons. Along the way, he meets fellow Demon Slayers Zenitsu Agatsuma and Inosuke Hashibira and encounters powerful enemies serving the demon king Muzan Kibutsuji.
The series has become widely popular for its emotional storytelling, beautifully animated sword fights, memorable characters, and balance of intense drama with occasional comedy. Its central themes include family, compassion, perseverance, and the importance of protecting others.
The television anime is produced by ufotable and began in April 2019 with the Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc. The story continued through the Mugen Train Arc, Entertainment District Arc, Swordsmith Village Arc, and Hashira Training Arc.
The story following the Hashira Training Arc continues in the Infinity Castle film trilogy. The first instalment, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle, opened in Japanese cinemas on July 18, 2025.
Tanjiro’s Beautiful Unconscious World
At the beginning of the Mugen Train storyline, Tanjiro and his companions fall asleep because of Enmu’s Blood Demon Art. Enmu, a member of the Twelve Kizuki, uses his abilities to trap people in dreams and manipulate their minds.
His plan is particularly cruel. While the Demon Slayers remain asleep, Enmu’s human accomplices enter their unconscious worlds to destroy the spiritual cores that represent their minds. If those cores are destroyed, the victims will lose their ability to fight back.
Inside his dream, Tanjiro is reunited with his deceased family. For a moment, he experiences the peaceful life he desperately wishes he could have had. His father, mother, and siblings are all there, and the family appears to be living happily together.
However, Tanjiro gradually realises that something is wrong. He must find a way to wake himself up, even if doing so means making an extremely painful decision.
One of the most striking details is Tanjiro’s unconscious world itself. It is depicted as a beautiful, peaceful place, reflecting his gentle personality and compassionate heart. Even the person who enters his mind to destroy his spiritual core is affected by the atmosphere.
The scene also includes an emotional anime-original moment involving the person who enters Tanjiro’s unconscious world. Rather than simply treating the intruder as an enemy, the sequence allows the character to experience Tanjiro’s kindness.
Fans appreciated the additional emotional detail, with reactions including:
- “Tanjiro’s unconscious world is so beautiful.”
- “The scene where the boy reaches out to the child was such a lovely addition.”
- “Tanjiro’s kindness really comes through in this scene.”
- “The anime version adds more emotional depth to the story.”
Some viewers also pointed out that certain moments differ between the television version and the 2020 theatrical film, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train. These differences gave fans another reason to compare the two versions.
Inosuke and Zenitsu’s Unconscious Worlds Are Completely Different
While Tanjiro’s unconscious world is peaceful and beautiful, the dream worlds of Inosuke and Zenitsu are considerably more unusual.
Enmu’s accomplices also enter the minds of the two young Demon Slayers. However, their experiences are very different from the one they encounter inside Tanjiro’s mind.
In Inosuke’s unconscious world, one of the intruders is confronted by the wild and unpredictable personality of the boar-masked swordsman. Inosuke behaves as though he is leading an adventure through the wilderness, chasing after a girl who calls him a “naked boar.”
His dream reflects his unusual way of thinking and his instinct-driven personality. Even inside his own mind, Inosuke is difficult to control.
Zenitsu’s unconscious world is equally strange, but in a completely different way. His intruder finds himself in a dark environment, where Zenitsu approaches him from behind with a large pair of scissors.
The contrast between the three characters’ minds creates one of the episode’s funniest sequences. Tanjiro’s peaceful world reflects his kindness, while Inosuke’s dream is chaotic and Zenitsu’s is unexpectedly frightening.
Viewers enjoyed the contrast, sharing comments such as:
- “Entering Inosuke’s dream must be terrible luck!”
- “The naked boar is hilarious.”
- “Naked Boar and Scissorsman Zenitsu!”
- “Inosuke’s dream is scary, but Zenitsu’s might be even worse!”
- “It’s difficult to tell who the real enemy is anymore!”
The sequence offers a welcome break from the episode’s darker emotional moments while giving viewers a better understanding of the three characters.
Tanjiro Realises the Truth and Finds a Way to Wake Up
Inside his dream, Tanjiro eventually understands that he is not experiencing reality. He remembers the voice of his father and realises that he must cut his own neck to escape the dream.
This is an extremely difficult decision because the dream allows him to spend time with the family he lost. However, Tanjiro knows that remaining there would mean abandoning the people who need his protection.
He finally makes the painful choice and cuts his own neck, waking himself from Enmu’s hypnosis.
After escaping the dream, Tanjiro begins to understand how Enmu’s ability works. He realises that the tickets used on the train are connected to the demon’s Blood Demon Art and that the passengers have been trapped in the same dangerous situation.
With Nezuko’s help, Tanjiro cuts the ropes connecting the sleeping passengers, including Kyojuro Rengoku, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and the other children. However, freeing them from the ropes does not immediately wake everyone.
One of the girls who entered Tanjiro’s unconscious world becomes upset because she wanted to remain inside her dream. She complains that Tanjiro has ruined the happiness she was experiencing.
Tanjiro does not waste time arguing with her. He gently knocks her unconscious so that he can continue fighting Enmu.
Before leaving, he quietly admits that he also wanted to remain in the dream.
That short moment reveals the emotional burden Tanjiro carries. Although he understands that the dream is not real, he still wishes he could return to the peaceful life he lost.
The intruder who entered his unconscious world also appears to have been deeply affected by what he witnessed. His experience shows that Tanjiro’s kindness can reach even someone who initially approaches him with harmful intentions.
Fans particularly appreciated this additional character development, with some commenting that the scene made the episode more emotionally powerful.
“Don’t Trample on People’s Hearts!” Tanjiro Confronts Enmu
After waking up, Tanjiro finally confronts Enmu on top of the moving Mugen Train.
Enmu is pleased that Tanjiro has managed to escape his dream, but he does not appear particularly worried. Instead, he mocks Tanjiro for giving up the opportunity to remain in a happy dream.
Tanjiro, however, has no intention of forgiving him.
“Don’t trample on people’s hearts! I won’t forgive you!” he declares.
Enmu notices Tanjiro’s hanafuda earrings and becomes excited. He recognises their connection to Muzan Kibutsuji and believes that defeating Tanjiro could earn him more of Muzan’s blood.
For viewers unfamiliar with the story, Muzan is the original demon and the central antagonist of the series. The Twelve Kizuki are powerful demons who serve him, and receiving more of his blood can increase a demon’s strength.
Tanjiro attacks Enmu using Water Breathing, Tenth Form: Constant Flux, one of his powerful sword techniques.
However, Enmu responds with his Blood Demon Art, Whispers of Forced Unconsciousness and Hypnosis. He repeatedly commands Tanjiro to fall asleep.
“Sleep! Sleep! Sleep!”
Despite Enmu’s repeated attempts, Tanjiro does not remain asleep. He has learned how to recognise the effect of the hypnosis and uses his own actions to wake himself up whenever the technique takes hold.
Enmu gradually realises that Tanjiro has found a way to resist his ability. The demon becomes increasingly frustrated as his usual method of controlling his opponents fails.
The confrontation becomes a battle of determination as much as physical strength. Tanjiro knows that the passengers are still in danger, so he cannot afford to lose even a moment.
“Don’t Insult My Family!” Enmu Shows Tanjiro a Cruel Nightmare
Realising that his hypnosis is not working as expected, Enmu attempts to break Tanjiro’s spirit by showing him an especially cruel dream.
This time, Tanjiro is confronted by the people he loves most: his own family.
However, the dream is no longer peaceful. His siblings begin blaming him for failing to protect them.
Rokuta cries and asks why Tanjiro did not save them. Takeo angrily questions what his older brother was doing while the family was being killed. Hanako tells him that he is the only one who survived.
The nightmare becomes even more painful when Tanjiro’s father appears to call him useless. Finally, his mother delivers the cruelest statement of all, telling him that she wishes he had died instead.
For Tanjiro, these words are unbearable.
He knows that his real family would never say such things. They loved him, supported him, and wanted him to live happily. Enmu’s attempt to use their images against him only makes Tanjiro more furious.
He shouts:
“I would never say such a thing! Not my family! Don’t insult my family!”
It is one of the episode’s most emotional moments. Tanjiro’s anger is not simply directed at Enmu for showing him a nightmare. He is furious because the demon has used the faces and memories of his loved ones to attack him.
The scene also highlights Tanjiro’s deepest motivation. His family may no longer be physically present, but their love remains an important part of his identity. Their memories give him the strength to continue fighting.
Fans responded emotionally to the moment, with comments including:
- “I cried when he shouted, ‘Don’t insult my family!’”
- “Enmu clearly doesn’t know the Kamado family. That’s why this plan failed!”
- “It hurts to think about how much fear and guilt Tanjiro has been carrying.”
- “Instead of breaking him, the nightmare only makes Tanjiro more determined.”
- “His family is gone, but their love is still supporting him.”
Many viewers felt that this scene perfectly represented the emotional heart of Demon Slayer: even in the face of unimaginable tragedy, love and memories can give someone the strength to keep moving forward.
Tanjiro Cuts Off Enmu’s Head, but the Demon Is Not Defeated
After resisting Enmu’s psychological attacks, Tanjiro manages to strike back and cut off the demon’s head.
Normally, cutting off a demon’s head with a Nichirin Sword is the standard way for a Demon Slayer to defeat a demon. However, Enmu has prepared another surprise.
Even after his head is severed, he continues speaking.
Tanjiro quickly realises that something is wrong. Enmu’s body begins to change and expand, revealing that the demon has been hiding the true nature of his attack.
Enmu explains that he has fused with the Mugen Train itself.
In other words, the demon has connected his body to the train, turning the entire locomotive into an extension of himself. This means that simply cutting off his head is not enough to save the passengers.
The situation becomes far more dangerous because Enmu can now threaten people throughout the train.
Viewers reacted with a mixture of surprise and humour:
- “He’s fused with the train!”
- “Locomotive Enmu!”
- “Being a train must be inconvenient!”
- “How are they supposed to defeat an entire train?”
Although the comments were humorous, the situation is extremely serious for Tanjiro and the others. Hundreds of passengers are still trapped, and Enmu’s new form makes protecting everyone much more difficult.
Inosuke Awakens and Bursts Through the Train Roof
Just as the situation becomes more dangerous, Inosuke finally awakens and makes a dramatic entrance.
Rather than quietly joining the fight, he bursts through the roof of the moving train and appears ready to charge straight into battle.
His arrival brings a sudden burst of energy to the episode. Inosuke’s confidence, loud personality, and habit of charging into danger make his awakening especially entertaining.
He immediately prepares to fight alongside Tanjiro, showing that his instincts and determination remain as strong as ever.
The scene also creates a funny contrast with the seriousness of the situation. While Tanjiro is trying to understand Enmu’s transformation and protect the passengers, Inosuke makes an entrance that seems almost designed to cause even more chaos.
Fans were quick to react:
- “Inosuke is awake too!”
- “How much strength does he have to break through a train roof?”
- “Please don’t destroy the train, Inosuke!”
- “Explosive awakening! Inosuke-sama has arrived!”
- “He always makes the most dramatic entrance!”
Despite the comedy, Inosuke’s arrival is important. Tanjiro now has another powerful ally to help him face Enmu’s transformed body and protect the passengers.
The episode ends with the battle reaching a new stage, setting up the next instalment of the Mugen Train Arc.
Konomi Kohara and Aoi Koga Share Emotional Cast Comments
Alongside the rebroadcast, the official Demon Slayer website has been sharing comments from the voice actors as part of its series-wide rerun campaign.
For Episode 4, the spotlight turns to two of the younger members of the Kamado family: Hanako and Rokuta.
Konomi Kohara as Hanako Kamado
Hanako, the second daughter of the Kamado family, is voiced by Konomi Kohara.
Kohara is also known for playing Roxy Migurdia in Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation and Chika Fujiwara in the Kaguya-sama: Love Is War series.
In her message, Kohara reflects on the sadness of Tanjiro’s lost family and the happiness they might have experienced if tragedy had never struck.
She expresses the feeling that it would have been wonderful if everything had been a dream and the Kamado family could have continued living together.
However, she also praises Tanjiro for facing reality and continuing to fight demons despite his pain.
Kohara’s comment highlights the idea that the Kamado family remains part of Tanjiro’s heart. Even though they are no longer alive, their love continues to support him.
She closes her message by expressing Hanako’s enduring encouragement for her older brother: “Big brother, do your best!”
Aoi Koga as Rokuta Kamado
The youngest child in the Kamado family, Rokuta, is voiced by Aoi Koga.
Koga is widely recognised for her performances as Kaguya Shinomiya in Kaguya-sama: Love Is War and Shoko Komi in Komi Can’t Communicate.
In her cast comment, Koga recalls an emotional moment from the recording sessions. Noriko Kuwashima, who voices the children’s mother, Kie Kamado, told her that Rokuta would be the last member of the Kamado family to speak to Tanjiro.
Koga says she still remembers that conversation clearly. She tried her best to put all of Rokuta’s feelings into those final words and make sure they reached his older brother.
Her comment adds another layer of emotion to the episode. The brief words of a young child become an important memory for Tanjiro, reminding him of the family he has lost and the love that continues to guide him.
The official comments from both actresses help viewers appreciate the emotional performances behind these scenes.

The rebroadcast campaign began on April 5, 2026, revisiting the television anime series from the beginning. The Mugen Train Arc is now approaching its major action sequences, making the coming episodes particularly exciting for fans.

The line “Don’t insult my family!” is more than an angry response. It represents Tanjiro’s love for the people he lost and his determination to protect the memories they left behind.

With “Move Forward!” coming next, the Mugen Train journey is far from over.
