A cross-cultural romantic comedy that looks set to be a big hit
A romantic comedy that is expected to explode: “The girl I fell in love with in Okinawa speaks too much of a dialect; it’s too hard to understand.” This work is a cross-cultural love comedy centered on three people: the main character, Teruaki Nakamura (CV: Takeo Otsuka), who transferred from Tokyo to Okinawa; his classmate Toka Kiyan (CV: Akari Kito), who speaks a strong Okinawan dialect and whom he falls in love with, and Kana Higa (CV: Ai Fairouz), who helps Teruaki by interpreting.
This “Okitsura” is full of “Okinawa things.” Not only does it involve Okinawan artists, such as the opening theme by HY and the ending theme, which are covers of songs by BEGIN and MONGOL800, but it also has a series of elements that are likely to become a hot topic, such as the cast of “Higa-san” in the first episode and the casting of Yoko Gushiken as a boxer in the second episode.
I had a feeling that it would explode somewhere. Also, perhaps considering the Okinawan sunshine, the shadows are strong, and the images are unique, with comical onomatopoeia (for example, “gabinchu” when shocked) and subtitles in the local dialect. It’s full of fun that goes beyond a simple romantic comedy. Could it become the next global hit? Chinese animation “RINGING FATE” In terms of engaging images, “RINGING FATE” is also worth watching. This action film is set between life and death, where Kaname (CV: Hanazawa Kana), who died at a young age, challenges the “Ring of Destiny,” which gives her a chance to come back to life.
The film is played out in 3DCG. Still, the rich expressions of the deformed characters and the sharp action of the mecha characters fighting will surely amaze many people, saying, “This is a Chinese animation that looks like it has a big budget!” The story, including the mystery of the main character, who has lost his memory, is also enjoyable. Still, if this quality continues in the future, it will be satisfying enough. As it is an original animation directed by Li Haolin, who also directed the globally widespread “Time Agent -LINK CLICK-,” it is not surprising that it will gain global popularity like that work.
