by A digitally remastered version of the animated film “The Five Star Stories” will premiere on free television on September 26 at 1:00 a.m. on BS12 TwellV’s late-night anime slot, “Anime 26.” “Five Star Stories” is based on the first episode of the sci-fi manga of the same name by Nagano Mamoru, designer behind the TV anime series “Heavy Metal L-Gaim” and “Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam.” Set in the Joker Sun Cluster, where scientific civilization is slowly declining, the story follows the millennia-long history of Amaterasu, the goddess of light, her artificial lifeform wife, Fatima Laxis, and the Headliners, the combat humans who pilot the ultimate weapon, the Motorhead, alongside Fatima. In the year 2988 of the Cluster Calendar, the beautiful young man Radios Soap arrives on the planet Adler and enters Archduke Uber’s castle to rescue Laxis, who has been taken there for an “invitation.”
Ryo Horikawa voices Radio’s Soap and Maria Kawamura voices Lachesis, with other cast members including Hideyuki Tanaka, Ichiro Nagai, Rei Sakuma, Norio Wakamoto, Kazuhiko Inoue, Sho Hayami, Kazunari Futamata, Rumiko Ukai, Mari Yokoo, Run Sasaki, Kazuhiro Nakata, Yoshino Takamori, and Koichi Yamadera. The script was written by Akinori Endo, directed by Kazuo Yamazaki, and character design by Nobuteru Yuki, known for “Record of Lodoss War” and “Space Battleship Yamato 2199.”
