by The production of the new TV anime “GATE SEASON2: Thus the JSDF Fought There” has been decided, and the main staff and concept visuals have been released. The anime “GATE” is based on a light novel by Takumi Yanai, which has sold over 7.3 million copies in total.
The previous work ” GATE: Thus the JSDF Fought There “, which aired in 2025, depicts the appearance of a “gate” to another world in Ginza, Tokyo, and the otaku Self-Defense Force member Itami Youji and others fighting monsters that pour in through the gate and advancing to the other side of the gate.
“GATE SEASON2: Thus the JSDF Fought There”, the first new work in about 10 years since the previous work, depicts the activities of the Maritime Self-Defense Force on the vast ocean of another world.
The main staff includes director Toru Takahashi (director of “Inari Kon Kon Koi Iroha” and director of “Chihayafuru 3”), series composition and scriptwriting by Tatsuhiko Urahata, who will continue from the previous work. Character design will be handled by Shigeru Fujita (“MONSTER”, “PLUTO”, “Summer Wars”), and animation production will be handled by Studio M2 instead of A-1 Pictures, who were in charge of the previous work.
As with the previous work, Genco will also participate as a production partner (they participated as producers in the last work).
