The official “Crayon Shin-chan” spinoff manga, “Nohara Hiroshi’s Lunch Style,” will air on BS Asahi from 11:00 PM to 11:30 PM starting October 3rd.
It began serialization in “Monthly Manga Town” in December 2015 and is currently being serialized on “MangaCrayonShin-chan.com .” It’s a gourmet manga themed around the lunches of Shin-chan’s father, 35-year-old Nohara Hiroshi, depicting the way he focuses on his lunch despite his limited pocket money and time.
The manga has sold over 800,000 copies, and the webcomic recorded 4.4 million page views last year. When the anime adaptation was announced in March, it generated a lot of buzz, with “Nohara Hiroshi” trending at number one on X and “Lunch Style” trending at number eight.
In the newly released video, Hiroshi’s voice actor, Toshiyuki Morikawa, narrates, “Nohara Hiroshi, 35 years old, of course, he eats lunch!” Toshiyuki Morikawa handles both the voice actor and narrator, and the video ends with the familiar “If you look…” line from the original. Each episode will be 30 minutes long and will consist of two episodes, featuring popular stories from the original manga, such as “Pancakes” and “Kushikatsu.”
The popularity of this show is said to be resonating with both men and women, primarily among adults, because it goes beyond simple food reviews to include food trivia and recipes, as well as typical office worker experiences like “worries about treating juniors,” “quick meals between sales calls,” and “complaining about your boss.” The show also incorporates the gags and surreal humor of the original “Crayon Shin-chan,” and Hiroshi’s various “facial expressions” for each dish are also considered part of its appeal.
The opening theme song is “Gohan Tabeyo,” a newly written song by artist Mega Shinnosuke, who is himself a big fan of the “Crayon Shin-chan” series. Mega Shinnosuke commented, “I can’t believe it, but I’m Shinnosuke is singing the theme song! Thank you! It’s a peaceful and heartwarming story about how you never know what’s going to happen in life! I’m looking forward to it airing!” He spoke about the song’s creation, saying, “Everybody goes through a lot of hardships in their daily lives, right?! I want them to take a break from their hectic lives, have a delicious meal, and feel like they can do it! Just like the lyrics say, ‘Let’s take it easy,’ it’s a song that makes you want to eat something, get energy, and live even more! A little dance makes it even more fun, let’s go with a smile, be happy, and be carefree.”
