There is a lot of information about anime that will be broadcast and screened in 2025, but have you decided which one to watch, readers? For those who haven’t checked it out, we will introduce three new works and two sequels you should watch.
“Zenshu.” (Broadcasting starts in January) “Zenshu.” is an original anime by MAPPA, which has released many hit works. This work depicts the story of “Natsuko Hirose,” who became an animator after graduating high school and quickly made her directorial debut. As it is a MAPPA work, you can, of course, expect high-quality images, but it will also be interesting to see what kind of story will be spun as a “creator’s work,” which has been increasing in recent years, such as “Look Back” and “A Few Minutes of Cheers.”
“Hana wa Saku, Shura no Gotoku” (Broadcasting starts in January) This work is the first manga that Ayano Takeda, the author of the novel “Sound! Euphonium,” has worked on as an original work. Like Euphonium, this is a youth story set with a female high school student as the protagonist, and the fact that it is set in a broadcasting club is a rare feature in the anime genre. Also, the fact that it will be produced by Studio Bind, known for Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation and Oniichan wa Oshimai!, is something that anime fans can look forward to.
Rock is a Lady’s Hobby (broadcasting begins in April). Every year, there are hit girl band animes, such as Bocchi the Rock! in 2022 and BanG Dream! It’s MyGO!!!!! In 2023, and Girls Band Cry in 2024, this work will likely be a hit in 2025. The appeal of the original manga is the unexpected story of students attending a girls’ school that only ladies attend, forming a band, and the passionate depictions that will satisfy even rock fans. Even from the currently released PV, you can feel that this is fully reproduced in the anime, raising fans’ expectations.
“The Apothecary Diaries” (2nd season) (broadcasting starts in January). It’s nice to have work you think is “a surefire hit and will be interesting.” The second season of “The Apothecary Diaries,” which will soon begin, is about a former pharmacist girl named Maomao who knows about medicines and poisons and works as a maid in the harem, solving various cases.
The first season, which began airing in the fall of 2023, was very popular as an entertainment work packed with various elements, such as mystery, romance with the handsome eunuch “Rinshi,” and comedy, and the second season is likely to continue to be enjoyable.
“Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuX” (broadcast date undecided) was suddenly announced at the end of 2024 and stole the show. Not only is it the latest work in the “Gundam” series, but a significant topic is that in addition to Sunrise, Studio Color, which is in charge of the “Evangelion” series, is also involved in the production.
The main cast includes director Kazuya Tsurumaki, series composer Yoji Enokido, and mechanical designer Ikuto Yamashita. In January, a reconstructed version of some episodes will be screened in theaters ahead of the TV broadcast, so be sure to check it out if you’re interested.
