It looks like it came out of the game! The full-scale Pokemon “Turtwig” made of clay is of excellent quality.
The clay work that reproduces the Wakaba Pokemon “Turtwig,” the three families of the recently released “Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl,” is cute to hold tightly. The author is Yoshinori Nendo, who makes three-dimensional works of Pokemon from clay.
Turtwig with a neat appearance that is unlikely to start moving at any moment. Not only is it cute, but it’s also a single flower vase, and the leaves on its head are real. The reproducibility of the colon-shaped body and round eyes is fantastic…!
The making video is also available on YouTube. You can see the process of molding the hardened aluminum foil with clay as a base, polishing the surface smoothly, and coloring it. The delicacy of making the pupil part separate from the head and using resin liquid for the glitter of the eyes are shining. It seems that there are many overseas viewers, and there are comments in English such as “I love you!” And “I cried a little because it was so cute at the end.”
We asked Mr. Yoshinori Nendo, who has been modeling full-scale Pokemon with convenient functions such as “Dedenne that can charge the iPhone” and “Chinchou equipped with a stand light function,” how he started modeling.
What made you start making clay for Pokemon?
Yoshinori Nendo got hooked on watching the anime “Pokemon Sun & Moon.” Unlike previous Pokemon, there are many stories from the perspective of Pokemon, and each character is firmly spotted. And I became addicted to Pokemon again when I became an adult. Among them, a Pokemon with an LCD screen on the stomach called “Rotom Encyclopedia” appears, but I want to make it in full size! It all started with the idea that I had made it. I’m killing time.
What is your favorite Pokemon?
Yoshinori Nendo: Everyone likes the Pokemon I’ve made so far. Even with the same Pokemon, there are some differences in animations, games, illustrations, etc., so as you chew them well and make them, you will like that Pokemon!
Other than that, it is a Pokemon called “slaking.” It’s powerful, but it’s a Pokemon that can’t act once every two turns. I also have a pretty lazy habit, but when I do it, I do it properly, so I like it because I think it’s somewhat similar to myself.
Which version did you play the Pokemon game from?
Yoshinori Nendo The game is played from “Pokemon Emerald.” When I was a junior high school student, I had appendicitis when I bought it, and I had been doing it for two weeks while I was in the hospital.
How do you choose the Pokemon you want to make? The commitment to production
Yoshinori Nendo: I wanted to make something that no one had ever done, and I was particular about “actual size” and “with functions,” and I imagined what would happen if Pokemon existed in this real world. I have chosen. Also, I don’t make famous places because of the nature of the sculptor, and I tend to touch minor places.
What made you decide to post the making video?
Yoshinori Nendo: In a group chat that loves Pokemon, I was approached by someone doing YouTube before me. Originally I was not good at PC and shooting, so I kept refusing for a while. Still, I continued to be told that “Yoshinori will succeed” and began to reluctantly.
What are you devising when making videos?
Yoshinori Nendo: Before, I used to put subtitles excitingly and did various things in between, but now I’m trying to make simple videos. In particular, the number of overseas viewers exceeds 80% of the total, so I think anyone must understand. But sometimes, I play around. I think it’s a place for self-expression rather than the number of views!
If you look at all of Nendo Yoshinori in the playlist, you can see that he is repeating failures and successes.
Also, I try to shoot and edit videos using suitable equipment. I wasn’t monetizing it, but I bought a PC for 400,000 yen and couldn’t go back (laughs).
