‘Little Nemo’ celebrates 35 years since its theatrical release with a one-night special screening of the film and pilot episode.

For a limited time, the Japanese-American animated film ‘Little Nemo’ will be exclusively shown on July 13th at the prestigious Akihabara UDX Theater in Tokyo. This special screening is a unique opportunity to commemorate the 35th anniversary of its theatrical release. In addition, a pilot film by renowned animators Yoshifumi Kondo and Kazuhide Tomonaga will also be showcased, adding to the event’s exclusivity.

[Image] The film will be made into a live-action Netflix movie “Slumberland” in 2022. This film was released in 1989 and is a film adaptation of the newspaper serial “Little Nemo in Dreamland” by

American comic book writer Winsor McCay. The film depicts the adventures of a young boy full of imagination and curiosity, Nemo, who goes on adventures in the dreamland “Slumberland” every time he falls asleep. The Japanese-American directors Masami Hata and William T. Hertz, who directed “The Legend of Sirius” and “Elmer’s Adventures,” will take the helm, and the screenplay will be written by Chris Columbus and Richard Otten of the “Harry Potter” series.

The screen concept was created by novelist Ray Bradbury, known for “The Martian Chronicles” and “Fahrenheit 451”; Moebius, a leading French bande dessinĂ©e, handled the conceptual design. The storyboards and critical animation were handled by Yasuo Otsuka, known for “Lupin III” and “Future Boy Conan,” and the art direction was handled by Nizo Yamamoto, known for “Castle in the Sky” and “Princess Mononoke.” It is a significant project that took 15 years to produce and cost 5.5 billion yen.

The voice cast includes Takuma Aino, Norio Otsuka, Koichi Kitamura, Danny Mann, Hiroko Kasahara, Kenji Utsumi, and Taro Ishida. Film researcher Seiji Kanae will give a talk after the screening.

As part of the immersive experience, a replica of the image board by art director Yamamoto will be exhibited in the lobby, allowing you to get a closer look at the film’s artistic process. Unique postcards will also be distributed to all visitors, serving as a memento of this unique event. Don’t miss the opportunity to be part of this special event. Tickets will be on sale at 7 pm on June 21st on the movie request screening site Dreampass. Please note that ticket sales will close at 6 pm on July 11th, and no tickets will be available. This event will feature a Blu-ray screening of both the main feature and the pilot film, ensuring you don’t miss a single detail of Nemo’s adventures.
