Anime (based on Light Novel) will have a second season that will air in split cours (quarters of a year).

Both Square Enix and author Kayaharuka have confirmed that the TheMisfit of Demon King Academy manga has been canceled.

Kayaharuka’s manga is based on the light novel series by Shu and was first serialized in July 2018 on Square Enix’s Manga Up! website. The series was also adapted into an anime in 2019 by Silver Link, the studio behind Restaurant to Another World. A second season of the anime was announced in early 2021, with the cast and crew of the first season set to reprise their roles.

The Misfit of Demon King Academy tells the story of Anos, a once all-powerful demon king who willingly sacrifices his own life to ensure peace and prosperity for the rest of the world. After reincarnating two millennia later, Anos is shocked to discover that the world he sacrificed himself for is far from a utopia: his pureblooded descendants now subjugate all other species of demons, and he is labeled a misfit by the ruling class. Anos is determined to rise back to the top of the demon hierarchy and set things right, but first, he has to enroll in and graduate from the titular Demon King Academy.

The sudden cancellation of The Misfit of Demon King Academy’s manga comes a month after the announcement that the popular Jujutsu Kaisen manga was going on an indefinite hiatus due to concerns over the health of that series’ creator, Gege Akutami. Concerns over the health of manga creators have been heightened ever since the sudden and unexpected death of Berserk creator Kentaro Miura, who passed away in May at the age of 54.
