This work has been serialized in Hakusensha’s “Manga Park” since 2019, and when its TV anime adaptation was announced in December 2024, it became a hot topic, especially on social media. The protagonist is Luna, a witch with a unique condition that causes poisonous mushrooms to grow wherever she touches or walks, and her breath and skin are also poisoned.
This magical fantasy, filled with love, adventure, and emotion, follows the lonely black witch, feared by others as the “Champignon Witch,” who yearns for a human life and the people around her. It has now been announced that “The Champignon Witch” will begin airing on Thursday, January 8, 2026.
The first episode will be a two-episode, one-hour special, depicting the events leading up to Luna’s encounter with Lize. It was also announced that Shoya Chiba will play the character Henri, a character featured in the series. Chiba commented, “I was drawn to the poetic worldview.
The story is quiet and matter-of-fact, yet the dialogue is light-hearted.
