Tokyo Anime Award Festival to honor Kazuhide Tomonaga, with screening of ‘Little Nemo’ pilot and other films

The latest program for the Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2025 (TAAF2025), which will be held in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, from March 7th to 10th, has been released.

TAAF is an international animation film festival being held for the 12th time this year. The festival will feature the Competition Section for works not released in Japan.

The Anime of the Year Section is for works released in Japan, and the Animation Merit Section conveys the industry’s history and technology through creators who have contributed to it.

In commemoration of the awarding of Kazuhide Tomonaga, an animator known for the ” Lupin III ” series, in the Animation Merit Section, it has been decided that the pilot film for “Little Nemo,” which he worked on with Yoshifumi Kondo and “Lupin III: The Intrigue of the Fuuma Clan,” for which he was the animation director, will be screened at Cine Libre Ikebukuro in Tokyo.

A talk show with Tomonaga is also scheduled after the screening. ” Look Back, ” which won the Animation of the Year award, will be shown with English subtitles. In addition, a unique feature on Nukufilm, an Estonian stop-motion animation production company founded during the Soviet era, will feature short films and a talk with the company’s producer, Keldi Oengo.

“YOUNG POWER 2025” will also be held, where works by students who will lead the next generation of the animation industry will be screened and critiqued by leading animators in the industry. Guests include Shinji Seya, animation director at Tezuka Productions, and Suresh Elyat, who won the Cristal at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival Commission in 2015 for “Rotary “Fateline.”

In addition, there will be a screening of the Inter-College Animation Festival (ICAF), which brings together works recommended by schools where you can study Animation professionally, and four completed works produced as part of the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ animation talent development research project “Anime no Tane”.

There will also be several events aimed at creators and those aspiring to work in the animation industry, such as a forum introducing digital technology and know-how in animation production and a symposium on software development by production companies.
