Mash Burndead (CV: Chiaki Kobayashi ), the wizard-slayer who relies solely on his well-honed physique, unleashes a surge of power once more! The battle scene in episode 17, brimming with unpredictable attacks, is a pulse-pounding spectacle that can be rightfully dubbed one of the most exhilarating clashes in the series.
The superpower battle anime MASHLE, which destroys the tennis concept, is based on the popular manga by Hajime Komoto, which was serialized in “Weekly Shonen Jump” until July 2023. This is an “abnormal magic fantasy” in which the main character, Mash, who cannot use magic, enters a magic school and aims to reach the top using only his trained muscles.
In episode 17, Mash, taking on the “Enlightenment Candidate Selection Exam,” faces off against Carpaccio Royan (CV: Kouki Uchiyama ), a first-year student at Orca Dormitory. Carpaccio is a genius chosen as the “Oldest Thirteen Wands (Master Cain)” and uses magic that transfers the damage he inflicts on his opponent. If you stab yourself with a knife, your opponent will also follow the wound, making it an unavoidable attack. Moreover, the goddess statue behind Carpaccio absorbs the damage, so he feels no pain.
Undoubtedly, Mash initially faced a daunting challenge. However, with a physique that surpasses that of an average person, he managed to turn the tide against Carpaccio. He defied the odds, pulling an iron cane from his pocket, stretching it with his bare hands, and transforming it into a tennis racket.
Then, he repeatedly hit the goddess statue with the ball, as if he were hitting a wall, and finally destroyed it. In many ways, this is a brute-force solution, and people on the internet have been enthusiastic about it, with comments such as I’m laughing my head off the whole time,” That was so funny,” and “Mash-kun is so good at tennis.’
The sheer power of Mash’s transformation, with comments such as “the muscles are scary” and “the mash is too strong,” is a testament to his might. However, the true highlight of episode 17 is the unwavering courage of Mash’s teammate, Finn Ames (CV: Leiji Kawashima ). It’s a heartening sight to witness Finn, who is often seen as unreliable, refusing to yield even when faced with relentless attacks from Carpaccio, a foe far superior to him.
