December 1 is Movie Day. Established in 1956, this commemorative day sees discounts on movie theater admission and film-related events.

In recent years, film adaptations of series have become popular, such as “Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc” and “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Castle Arc Chapter 1: Akaza Returns.” Many readers likely prefer to savor the story in the cinema all at once, rather than enjoying one episode per week on TV or streaming services.

Anime! Conducted a reader survey titled “Which anime would you like to see made into a movie?” We received 182 responses from November 15 to November 20. The gender ratio was roughly even, with approximately 55% men and 45% women. By age group, approximately 30% were under 19, and approximately 20% were in their 20s and 30s.

A collection of films you’ll want to see in theaters right now! The top spot went to “Funeral of Freiren,” with a support rate of approximately 5%. “Funeral of Freiren” is based on a manga serialized in “Weekly Shonen Sunday.” Set in a world after the defeat of the Demon King, this fantasy follows Freiren, a sorceress who has lived for over a thousand years, and the people she meets along the way.

The TV anime will air from 2023 to 2024, with the second season scheduled to begin airing on January 16, 2026. Readers expressed their anticipation for the anime’s unique developments, saying, “I want a movie adaptation with an original story!

The visuals in the TV series were so amazing, I can’t help but get excited just imagining how impressive the movie version will be.” Others expressed their hope for a theatrical adaptation of a specific episode from the original manga, saying, “I’d love to see the Mahato Arc of the Golden Land in the cinema.” These results demonstrate the high level of anticipation ahead of the new film’s broadcast. Second Place went to “Maebashi Witches,” with a support rate of approximately 4%.

“Maebashi Witches” is an original TV anime set in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture, about five high school students aspiring to become witches. It aired 12 episodes from April to June 2025. Comments included, “This is a work that sincerely addresses the worries and wishes of people of all ages and genders.

The scenery of Maebashi is carefully depicted and will surely resonate with locals and those unfamiliar with the city. “Even after the broadcast, events have continued in Gunma, creating excitement. I hope the movie version will further boost its momentum.” Titles airing this year have made it into the top rankings. Coming in third Place was “Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun,” with only a slight gap between it and second Place. “Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun” is based on a manga serialized in “Monthly G Fantasy.” It is a school-based supernatural tale starring Hanako-kun, also known as “Hanako of the Toilet,” the seventh of the Seven Wonders.

The first season of the TV anime aired in 2020, with the second season being released in 2025 as a two-season series. The spin-off, “After School Boy Hanako-kun,” has also proven popular, with an adaptation as a short anime. Several readers expressed their desire for a sequel, saying, “I was delighted with the second season. The broadcast ended at a great point, so I’d love to experience the next battle on a spectacular screen.”

Here are some other comments! Regarding “My Dress-Up Darling,” one comment reads, “Season 2 has aired, and there are only a few episodes left from the original.
