aespa and STAYC are Girl Groups That Represent the K-pop 4th Generation
aespa and STAYC are the two female idol groups that represent the fourth generation of K-pop.
aespa was dubbed the “leader of the fourth generation,” thanks to their hit single, “Next Level.” The song has continued to rise both domestic and international charts, proving its immense popularity.
aespa debuted in November 2020 and is SM Entertainment’s first rookie group since NCT’s debut in 2016 and their first girl group debut since Red Velvet’s debut in 2014.
From the moment they debuted, they attracted attention for their unique concept of having avatar counterparts to their members.
From their debut song “Black Mamba” to “Next Level,” Vespa’s music may sound complicated at first, but the more you listen, the more addictive it becomes. Their song continues to evolve into a hot topic among K-pop fans. “Next Level” swept first place on the Flo, Bugs, and Genie charts upon its release and even defeated BTS on the 24Hits Charts on MelOn.
STAYC, on the other hand, is rising in popularity despite not promoting at the moment. Known as the first girl group from producer duo Black Eye Pilseung, STAYC’s latest comeback, “ASAP,” has become a hit despite the song having been released two months ago.
STAYC debuted in November 2020 and immediately caught people’s attention for their top-tier visuals and addictive songs. Following their debut with “SO BAD,” STAYC made a comeback in April with “ASAP” and showed their teen-fresh energy.
When the song was first released on April 24, 2021, “ASAP” entered at number 100 on the 24Hits Charts on MelOn. Suddenly, on June 11, the song broke into the top 10 of the charts. On June 13, the song peaked at number 8, entering the single-digit rankings 67 days after the song was released.
As such, STAYC is proving its rise to fame despite its period of inactivity.
ENHYPEN is the Male Group That Represents the 4th Generation of K-Pop
ENHYPEN is the only male group to make the rankings. ENHYPEN was formed through the Mnet survival show “I-LAND” in 2020. Upon their debut, ENHYPEN quickly emerged as a representative among fourth-generation K-pop boy groups.
Based on the Gaon Chart on June 10, ENHYPEN’s first mini-album, “BORDER: DAY ONE,” released in November 2020, has sold a total of 466,232 copies. Their second mini-album, “BORDER: CARNIVAL,” sold 622,621 copies. Their album sales alone proved that they are rookies to be reckoned with.
Their achievements overseas are also outstanding. With their second mini-album, ENHYPEN entered at number 18 on the Billboard 200, making it the highest score among K-pop albums released this year. Furthermore, on Japan’s Oricon Chart, ENHYPEN topped the weekly album chart for two weeks in a row.
They achieved this all within six months from their debut!
