by Netflix’s live-action anime adaptation doesn’t have a good track record, so One Piece fans hoped their adaptation did well. The One Piece series made a lot of changes from the original but is still well-received by many. One of the main reasons why it was so well received was because of some amazing casting choices, and the show hopes to keep that in season 2.
In an interview with Deadline, showrunner Owens was able to talk about the One Piece series for the first time since the writer’s career began. During the interview, Owens talked about his campaign for Curtis to play Doctor Kureha in One Piece season 2. “It turns out that Jamie Lee Curtis is a fan of One Piece. As soon as he said that, we were like, okay, we’re going to try to do it in the movie. What shall we do? And Dr. Kureha, fortunately, is a character that appears in our story and is perfect for Jamie Lee Curtis,” Owens said.
Owens explained how they are working to make this dream a reality. “When he won his Oscar, the writers’ house sent him a Dr. Kureha figurine with a beautiful letter that said, ‘Congratulations on your statue, here’s something else to put next to it.’ I hope to talk to you soon.” Owens said. “When he rewrote that, he got a lot of interest from the fans, and I talked about it. We’re trying to prove it. Yes, at this time, SAG is still active, so there hasn’t been a real conversation. But as soon as possible, I am ready. I’ll take him to dinner, and we’ll talk about it. We’re going to do all this because, at this point, we’re writing to him – we really want him to play with us in Season 2.”
However, because the actors are still significant, there has been no official discussion with Curtis about the project. Curtis is also committed to the One Piece project. He posted an example of himself as Dr. Kureha on his Instagram and said: “Once the anti-AMTPT greed is solved with a fair contract, I will defend young people to be Dr. Kureha on @onepiecenetflix. ยป
Since Curtis and the owners are looking for this cast, it is not a matter of if Curtis will work in One Piece but when it will be announced. Season 1 is available on Netflix.
