The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for the 96th Academy Awards on the 23rd, and director Hayao Miyazaki’s “How Do You Live?” was selected for the Best Animated Feature Category. The film “Oppenheimer” (directed by Christopher Nolan), which depicts the struggles of the atomic bomb developer, was nominated in the Best Picture category, which attracted the most attention.
“Perfect Days,” starring Koji Yakusho, won the International Feature Film Award, and “Godzilla 1.0,” directed by Takashi Yamazaki, won the Visual Effects Award.
According to the distribution company, this is the fourth time Miyazaki’s work has been nominated in the Best Animated Feature category. He won the award in 2003 for “Spirited Away.”
“How Do You Live?” is set in wartime Japan, and the main character is a boy who loses his mother in a fire. The story is about a woman who goes missing and is her father’s second marriage partner, and as she searches for her, she wanders into a mysterious world guided by a gray heron.
“Oppenheimer” is dominating this year’s award race, having won five awards, including Best Picture, at the Golden Globe Awards announced this month.
The announcement and award ceremony of the winning works will be held on March 10th.
